squizzytaylor Posted January 6, 2009 Share Posted January 6, 2009 Great photo Carl, I used to stay in Rabaul every couple of months with work when I was in PNG at the Hamamas Hotel and it took a lot of getting used to the constant rumble of Tavurvur, ill try to dig up some photos of shortly after the eruption, but when traveling from Kokopo (the new town) and Rabaul you would drive through sections where the ash had been excavated over 30 feet deep to expose the road! what is even more amazing is that matupit island where the volcano is located was totally untouched, the ash literally blew over the top!
