Dad and I put the boat in at Oatley bay and wasn't the parking full already

bloody public holidays on my RDO

Dad has a painter coming Tuesday so were stuck with Monday , anyway

with the tide still pushing in we head to the mouth of Kyle bay and drifted back

tough going casting into the westerly but the only way to cover more water

with a mission to catch a flathead for my father in laws birthday dinner,I put on a turtleback

in pumpkingreen and 1/8th ounce jighead

about my 4th cast my 2 pound setup is going off, love that sound

land a nice little 27 cm bream and promptly release him

a few casts later and i'm on BIGTIME.

PING

Dad say's why do I bother with such light line and shakes his head

note to self , loosen drag a bit

change to my 3 pound and put on another worm

get a good hit but turns out to be a 26 cm reddie , released

on again with a decent fight and ask Dad to net it but he's on as well

double hook up of 50 cm Jewies , I net mine and then dad's and set them free , sorry no pic

around the top of the tide casting was easier with the wind to our backs

a nice long cast, let it sink to the bottom , slowly wind in the slack , feel some weight

zing , a good flattie it feels like , and I was right , get it near but it doesn't like the look of our boat

in close again for a net shot to see the fish has taken the lure right down , oh oh

dad gets it into the net but it jumps out and goes for another run

can feel the leader chafing and know this next chance is it

dad nets it again and hauls it in quick as the flattie smashes around , nearly breaking my other rods

my father in law has his dinner

next on is Dad with a great fight from a 35 cm Bream , running him around the boat

a couple of casts later he lands a 30cm model

i tie a new leader on my 2 pound set up and loosen the drag

straight away on bigtime with reel singing a merry tune , this is great fun

feels like a decent bream and it was , after a few runs dad does a great net job

bent my hook too

the wind picked up big time so we headed back to a packed ramp

but etiquette was the name of the day and trailers were moving in and out smoothly

another good feed from this great river of ours

Great read mate and some nice fish, the wind held off a bit for you, that would've made the day more comfortable, glad you and Dad scored some beaut fish..

Cheers..

Nice report Rob and congrats to you and your Dad on some good fish.

I have similar comments about light line when fishing with my old man as well, and my response is the same as yours "I'll just back the drag off a bit" :biggrin2:

Cheers'

the master strikes again

i have much to learn...

after that loop knot photo i just realised im hindering my lure action by using a hook knot

maybe i should go down to 3lb from a 6lb..... as well

I was under the impression that a locking knot such as a hook knot are preferred for making the SP swim properly. I may be wrong though..
