mrsswordfisherman
Fisherman rescued after hours at sea 12:07 AEST Sat Aug 1 2009 A fisherman has been winched to safety four hours after falling overboard into freezing waters along the NSW coast, police say. Shortly after midnight (AEST) on Saturday two men set off from Little Beach at Nelson Bay on the state's north coast in a five-metre runabout. "Emergency services were alerted about 3.15am after one of the men, aged 50, fell from the boat as it headed towards Broughton Island," police said in a statement. Searches by air and sea began in an attempt to find the man. About 7.20am (AEST) the helicopter crew spotted the man before winching him to safety. He was taken to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital suffering hypothermia and has since been reported to be in a stable condition. The second man from the boat has been interviewed by police. jason baker
Its a bit of a strange story. We were actually fishing up there on Saturday and came home to see this item on the news. I think we must have been fishing in about the exact spot he went over. Must have caused quite a fuss on Friday night but had had a few so slept through it all.
