0 olitay
Nice fish, dont think its a Mouri, but definitely a cod of some description. Slinky?
0 Blackfish
Black Cod. Totally protected. Funny about this a few diver mates have said they've seen quite a few this year around Sydney. Always been there but more common this year for some reason.
0 slinkymalinky
A cod definitely, but not a Maori Cod. There's a heap of species but it looks to me like a Black RockCod (aka Saddled RockCod for the black 'saddle'-like black blotch on the upper part of its tail wrist... and yep, it's a protected species. What do you reckon, RayR? Cheers, Slinky
0 Ray R
Yep 100% black cod, found along the east coast of Aus in estuaries and both close and offshore reefs..
0 james7
Thanks for your help Bergo, BillyD, Blackfish, Slinky and Ray. I thought it was some sort of cod but wasn't sure which. I'm glad I released it. It certainly had a nice set of dentures and a big mouth. I'll put a few more pictures in my "Toothy Critters" post.
