Trapper Tom
G'Day all fishraiders Just a short note. Been missing in action from the fishraider site for some time now. Unfortunately I have been really crook. And yes it was the dreaded "Black Dog". Being a really outgoing person I did not know what the hell was going on at first. Then, after turning into a blithering mess on the lounge room floor one night, I sort help. Thank God I did. If my son did not make a guest appearance at precisely that moment on that night I doubt very much I would be here know. Then came the shame trip until I was informed 1 in 4 peaple suffer from it. Wow, wipe of the brows there, back into the "normal people" ball park. The only purpose of this post is to raise the issue within the site and awareness of it so that others might benifit. I have never noticed this issue raised in any past reports etc etc. Probably because of the suffers percieved stigma attached to it, Boy aint I over that. FR With now 10,000 members (congrats Stewy and Donna )will naturally have its share of suffers. Be aware and do not treat this sucker lightly, seek help earlier rather than later. To Tan What can I say. Thank you very much for your post in this section a while ago enquiring about me and actually even leaving your personal ph number to contact you.. Was one important turning point for me and thank you very much for our phone conversation. As for our "Doggie Puns" that will now take on a new meaning eh eh, but it will still be "Great Mate Woof" Stewy Plase elevate Tan to the "Big Kahuna" god status Member, he has served your site well. Diver 1 info on Lake Mac to follow. Will be doing a flathead weekend in mid march at Swansea and the drop over. The worst of all this was that I had a call from Wiepia a while back, they had a cancellation and I just could not do. Bloody hells bells been waiting for that one for a while. Had to take the Red ones after that! Cheers guys and beware, He's Back!!!! Trapper Tom.
arpie
Welcome back Trapper Tom - glad to hear you are back with us again & looking good! Tan is a good man, eh? :1clap: I reckon we all go thru a bit of the Black Dog occasionally - it is just that when it combines another hiccup, it can become an even bigger problem - nothing a good fishing trip can't clear up, usually - Thank God that your son was there to help you thru it - & I reckon it would be more like 1 in 2 or 3 that either have had it or will get it!! And, it can run in families! It can start with something as stupid as not sleeping well over a period of time - so anyone out there still counting sheep at 2am & 4am on regular occasions .......... get thoroughly checked out! There wil be another Wiepa & you'll grab it with both hands & DO IT! Looking forward to the report, already! Take care & get those fishing reports going again! Cheerio & all the best Roberta

mrsswordfisherman
Hi Tom and thanks for sharing that with us all. For those of you who do not know what "black dog" refers to it is a term used by those who have suffered or suffer from forms of depression and or bi polar disorder. The Black Dog Institute is a not-for-profit, educational, research, clinical and community-oriented facility offering specialist expertise in depression and bipolar disorder. Depression takes on many forms and as Roberta says we all suffer from it at some time during our life. We can get depressed over events in our lives but sometimes we may need a little help to pull ourselves back on track. Women can suffer it post natally. Tom you are right in saying that 1 in 4 suffer. It is great to see that you have found the way back to enjoying life Tom - keep up the good work and tight lines Cheers mrsswordfisherman
tan the fisherman
Tom and fellow Raiders, The Black Dog is a beast that is VERY DIFFICULT to overpower. I too have suffered from depression in the past and for some years. Now all is good! Without dwelling on the subject, if you feel your life is all doom and gloom, you cant do anything right, always angry, if you feel inadequate in life - FIND SOMEONE TO TALK TO - it WILL help and you wont be humiliated. Tom, Glad you're back on track mate. I missed the banter! Thanks for the compliments, much appreciated. If I was drowning and you could help, Im sure you would too. Looking forward to reading your fishing reports to come and maybe... one day.. when the planets align etc etc - we will go for a fish!! silverbike
good to see you back, Tom. I can fully understand, as a sufferer myself. The trick is finding a sympathetic GP, and a friend willing to listen when you need to talk. A supportive partner helps enormously (alas mine does not understand). My orchids listen, though. There are plenty of FRIENDS right here at FISHRADER and dont hesitate to come and look for a mate to speak with. Note that some are not as pretty as and orchid myself included. Trapper Tom
G'day Guys Thanks for your kind words. More importantly, Hey "Cut Loose". Make sure you look after yourself buddy. Most of the recovery is in actually knowing that you have it. At least you then know whats going on and are aware of it and can then try to move forward. Hang in there and if you need a ear PM me anytime! Also one of the secrets for me was getting back to sports. Did all sorts of sports from 5 years old to 45. Had a big injury at 45 that affected the buisness so gave sports the flick. Now back to sports. Very important even for a young guy because it gives you achievement, sense of purpose etc etc. Also gets the blood pumping and all the good hormones running around your body. If you need advice on sports that might help you, again please feel free to PM. (Hey Fencing is absolutely brilliant). I Have 3 days booked with mates for Swansea Lake Mac in mid march. Objective 1:- the elusive 1m Flatty!!!!!!!!! Objective 2 catch as many damn fish (crabs prawns)as we can. He He. Gunna be good. Will post report in 2 weeks. Cheers Trapper Tom.
