Another Great Day Out

Heading out we caught two big salmon. Good start to the day.

We continued trolling south. It was quiet for a while, but we picked up a couple of small bonito and a few tailor.

Then we found a massive school of baitfish getting smashed on the surface.

It was amazing seeing fish jump out of the water. We trolled around for about an hour picking up more bonnies and some rat kings.

Unfortunately for our mate Alan, all the fish were caught on Syd's rod. Syd and I took turns to bring them in. Great fun. However, Alan just couldn't get one despite trying a range of lures.

Alan waiting in vain for something to happen.

He tried jigging and then throwing some sp's, but Al couldn't get anything to stay hooked. It looked like he was going to have "one of those days". It was weird because Syd and myself must have caught a dozen between us by this stage.

Anyway, it was time for a leisurely drift for some flatties. Pehaps Al's luck would change?

It wasn't long and Alan's line starts screaming. (Yeah, his luck had changed alright!)

Up comes this beauty.

And Alan's reaction ...

His smile says it all.

Syd got into the action with a few good flathead and a big jacket.

What was I doing wrong? Syd and Alan continued while I just watched. Alan pulled in another ripper while I eventually managed a few smaller ones. (At least I was on the board now!) Mind you, I did catch a very "pretty toad"! If you want to see some pictures, I've put some in "Toothy Critters 3". Click here to see them.

After a few hours we headed home, with Syd and Al smiling all the way.

I grabbed a few shots of Jibbon Bommie.

They clearly show how dangerous bommies can be. Flat water one minute, then the waves rise up out of nothing!

Here's Alan showing off his two great flatties.

... and the "table shot" - Syd and Al all smiles.

Syd caught the most, Al got the two biggest ... and I caught the three smallest, ... but they were the three "prettiest"! :074:

All up, another great day on the water!

Cheers

Peter

Well Al certainly came back with a vengeance, didn't he? :yahoo: You and Syd are finding some quality fish in great numbers at the moment Peter  Terrific photos as always mate. I hope the fishing continues for you into 2011!

Cheers

Well done Peter & co!! Top outing! Those kings & big flattie would have been fun! Good to see Alan got into the action too! :biggrin2:

Nice looking fish when smoked! Bet they tasted good, too!

James77 - I've smoked bonnies before & they are OK - better just cooked as fillets, lightly crumbed!! YUM!!
