giangnguyen
The question shouldn't be where...but when and how... We all know squids like bright lights, hangs around weeds and reef... Around the Gong, I fish around the break walls with lights at Port Kembla. The usual reef are Windang and Hill 60. There are always other anglers around. So try to find a place with less people so you can try out few retrieving techniques. I don't have any secret spot in particular. I fish depending on wind, tides and swell directions. And I fish with squid jigs. I normally out fish other angler that uses skewer on yellow tail 4:1 I uses an EGI rod. And probably cast over 200 times per session. Also I have a home made squid gaff. Allowing me to lift big squid over rock ledges. I have a collection of squid jigs. If my fav one doesn't work. I would switch to another straight away after few cast of not catching any. At the same time I don't take breaks. The whole time I there I'm always casting. So it is abit of work. Not as easy as it seems. I've been squiding alot lately, and I've caught a fair few. I think its good time now to try and catch some. Pretty sure anyone can catch a few if they arm themselves correctly... Persistence is the key .. and Good luck.. Snag-King. Rafinx
Hello Rafinx, how's your Jewie adventure going? Just answering your query above...the big squid are already here at sydney warf. this is about 2 weeks ago. Gymea Bay. Snag-King. yeah I did notice the green eyes at gymea about a month ago, but there was only 3 in the morning, I helped another bloke on the wharf with my extendable net to get a nice 1kg one on land, I only landed a small cuttle which I through out for a king with no luck >.<. Tho loads of pike at gymea, noticed them demolishing the yakkas there. as for the jew fishing, nothing in particular, did have a half decent run but it dissapeared before I could count to 3. May need some inspiration off another fellow jewfisher man to accompany me. Edited April 28, 2011 by Rafinx
giangnguyen
Yeah around the warf you'd be happy to get half a dozen of decent size squid. Need to venture out to the rocks for bigger ones and more catches.
