WOOHOOO!! top result for his first ever ABT Bass evenT!! Jewhunter comes 6th in the Clarrie Hall electric ABT event on Sunday, June 26th!!

Well done, Mate - you deserve it!! Anyone who fishes these events, knows the pressure it puts onto you. For some weeks now, I'd been trying to convince Grant to go in the abt yak bass event on the same weekend, (we almost had an agreement to do it together, but I had to pull out with Dr commitments) then, he had a crook back, so went in the leccie event instead!! Little did he know that, if he'd caught the same fish in the yak event, he would have WON IT OUTRIGHT!!! 1yikes.gif However, he didn't do the yak event (THIS TIME) - he did the leccie event and came in 6th place & how good is that? Top Ten finish in his first ABT bass event!! Watch out yakkers, next event held there!!biggrin2.gif

Clarrie Hall is a VERY well fished dam & given all the rain & stuff flowing down the Tweed over the last month or so, I can only imagine how difficult it was for the competitors to get into quality fish. Grant had told me a couple of weeks back that he'd had a terrific session, catching 20 or more bass up to 40cm+ (bloody good size for that dam!) So I gave him even MORE stick, encouraging him to go in the ABT, as it was in HIS back yard!! I even told him not to follow MY footsteps in fishing his own backyard POORLY,( as I have in every ABT event I have fished here in Forster! ) wacko.gif Have a plan & stick to it! Use what has worked in the past & don't worry about anyone else! No-one knows it as well as you!! Congratulations, Grant for a terrific result - the first of many, I reckon!

There will be more bass events (for yaks anyway) in the next year or so, so start practising!!!thumbup.gifyahoo.gif Cheers Roberta

Thanks Roberta!

Thanks also for the kind words fellas.

It was my 1st ever bass tournie so I'm rapt with that result.

I felt like I fished it really well & didn't do too much wrong. I maybe should have moved to my 2nd spot a bit earlier as I got a 38cm upgrade & 2 x 35cm fish there in 30 mins!

I was just hoping to weigh a bag & had a bag within the 1st hour. Ended up for 14 bass for the session. It was a beautiful, glassed out day & the fish were on the chew.

I did get dusted by a very good fish that stitched me up in the weed but even that one wouldn't have got me close to the top 2 fishos. Their bags were a great result for that dam & well done to them.

Usually when I fish there I have it to myself. To see all those boats & yaks was a real eye opener. :1yikes:

I reckon I must have looked like a bloody hillbilly! Only 2 rods & a huge esky for a livewell & my old bass boat. Out of all these flash boats, boats with leccies that look like outboards, boat with 3 leccies at the back with 1 up front & boats with leccies that would have been worth more than my boat, leccie & trailer put together I had the oldest, slowest boat there! It didn't matter as they all took of to all points leaving me behind. I got 11 of my fish within 500mtrs of the start line! :074:

I flew the Fishraider flag high though with my hat, jacket & 2 stickers down the side of the old boat that makes it look a lot better than it is!

Fish were caught on a 1-3kg rod, 4lb pink fireline & 6lb nitlon flouro leader. Used 3' bass minnows on 1/12th jigheads fished low & very slow along the edges of weedbeds & lilypads.

Not a touch on the 2nd rod with spin blade/grub combo & blades.

Sorry, no pics as I was too busy fishing!

Cheers,

Grant.

Hi Grant

Once again, well done! 14 fish on that dam, given the pressure it was under that day, with both the Leccie & Yak comp ..... is amazing! I've only ever caught a few there, not all legal! A good buddy came in 7th in the Yak session with the 2 only fish she landed, so she was stoked too, never having fished there before! She was busted off by a biggie, too! THere are some fish swimming around with lots of bling, eh? There was only a matter of grams between the top 7 in the yaks - if she'd landed the biggie, she could have been on top! wacko.gif.... Used 3' bass minnows on 1/12th jigheads ..... you just love those 3" (I am assuming inches, not feet!!1yikes.gif) bass minnows - don't tell me, pearl watermelon colour?? Some FRs wouldn't know what they are, with SPs having been overtaken by Gulp & other Berkley products in more recent times!! Good to see the good 'ol Berkley Bass Minnows still work!thumbup.gif

Gee, 1/12th is pretty heavy - or was it in deeper parts of the lake??

.........I got 11 of my fish within 500mtrs of the start line! .... Hmmm, I think I might know where one of those spots would have been biggrin2.gif Shame the biggie busted you off tho! mad3.gif

I'll try & get up there for it next year - I'll be following you! 074.gif

Cheers

Roberta

Now that you're an ABT member, you can go as a boater or non boater in other events too! cool.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

Grant spends a lot of time at Clarrie Hall and I know why... it's a beautiful piece of water. Fishing it successfully in winter takes some very specific techniques and the great result shows how well he's got them wired.

Just don't expect him to let you in on his little secrets. He's taken me up there twice now and we haven't boated a single fish yet. Now call me suspicious but ???????????

Well done, mate

A guy's gotta keep some secrets up his sleeve ............ I reckon he'll be in his yak next time tho! 1prop.gif
