TorCz
Hi guys, Been a long time fan of this website and its been awhile since I signed-up, but I haven't made a report yet, til now. Good friday: We headed down for some landbased fishing on Botany Bay. Not too sure what the place was called but he headed down some rocks to get to our spot. Was pretty quite most of the day. A local caught a fish ( looked like a blackfish but insisted it was a cod? ) and decided he'll give it to me, because he's caught a lot already. So I accepted the fish and as he was handing it to me the fish decided to trash about and it fell through the gaps of the rocks. The guy looked abit peed off so I apologized. Damn! I haven't even thrown my line into the water and already I've lost a fish . Anyways was quiet for us that day, but the fishermen to our left were having a mad time, hooking up salmon or tailors (pretty decent sized) like it was nothing. Left our lines in for quite a long time before reeling them in. My mate who was fishing to my right, reeled his first and was rewarded with a decent sized Flatty. I started reeling mine in and what do you know I was snagged. . Mate to my left started reeling his line in and got snagged too. We began pulling on our lines and it finally budged and we saw what we were snagged on. It was a old broken rod in the water. Both our lines got tangled with it. so we pulled the rod out and began untangling our lines when something pulled on the old rod. We both nearly fell into the water but managed to keep our footing. We reeled in the line using our hands and was greeted by an 80cm flatty. So all in all we caught 2 decent sized flatties and an old rod Easter Monday: We finally got into open waters! My mate got his boat license a couple of months ago but his boat was under maintenance so we couldn't really take it out til Easter. Anyways it was such a good day to go fishing. Headed down to the boat ramps at Port Botany and set off. Found a secluded spot and began fishing. From the get go there where lots of action from some Tailors. A lot of small fish though, smashing through our pillies. I decide change my rig to a two hook set-up (experimental) and chucked a whole pilchard on it, to try for a bigger tailor. Dropped my line for a few minutes then decided to check up on the bait. The pilly was half demolished and I was getting frustrated. I decided to chuck the same pilly back, but changed the positioning of the hooks. After a few minutes of no action i assumed that the rest of the bait have been picked of by the small tailors so I began to reel my line in. As soon as I began, my reel started screaming and my rod tip bent like crazy. I managed to overcome my excitement and focus on catching the damn thing. I started yelling "get the gaf, get the gaf" but being amatuers that we are, we forgot the gaf in the car. Lost track of how long I fought this fish for.. just had one thing on my mind, "Don't lose it, don't lose it!". Finally got to see some colour and a few more reels i was able to bring it up to the surface. It was a Jewie! My first jewie! Well i hope it was a Jewie. LOL. So happy! The rest of the day was pretty quiet after that.... but i didnt mind, I caught my first decent sized fish. Mum was very proud Edited April 11, 2012 by TorCz_

night_rider
Hi guys, Been a long time fan of this website and its been awhile since I signed-up, but I haven't made a report yet, til now. Sounds like that flatty may have snatched that rod from someone's hand or makeshift rod holder not too long ago! Any photos of the "bi-catch"?
