danielsydney
many people i've spoken to suggest a live squid will easily be a better bait in the harbour, but i've had mix results with both baits. Opinions?

Opinions? All depends upon the day. Seen yakkas outfish squid alot, and vice versa. This is why you should always have both on board. Dan

Dan Not disagreeing with Dan and Gregg, but live squid will outfish live yakkas 8 time outta 10, but on there day Live yakkas will work better then squid, but rarely... rockfisherman
Squid would rate better than a yakka for live bait, but you will find that the preferred bait is often determined by the location, there's 2 spots in the harbour where I've had live squid out many times and hasn't been touched whilst when I have yakkas out I have success. Day's Fishin
When I fished Sydney Harbour regularity in the early 70's we always used bung over squid. The reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they were easier to get, meaning more live baits more hook ups. Regards Jeff
lostproperty
Your best bet would be to catch both, that way if you catch nothing you know for sure they just weren't hungry on the day or you weren't where the fish were, I've had squid and yakkas both smashed and left alone in the harbour
quintrex52
For us squid is the go , the only success we have with yakkas are when they are small...never had a big yakka taken by a king...on the other hand slimies are better if you can get them
