Ray R
Hi Raiders, went out with my buddy Hutcho today to catch some bream. Armed with a few light outfits we headed around to the Half Tide Rocks area (opposite Ettalong). So we have an assortment of gear being small 2000 size reels and 1-3 and 2-4kg rods, 4, 6 and 8lb braid and leaders 6-10lb, smallest running sinkers to 1/0 and 2/0 suicide hooks. We found a good spot which had a sandy bottom dotted with some kelp covered reefy bits and oyster encrusted rocks, seemed to me a good spot for a bream. We berleyed up with bread mixed with salt water and a box of rabbit/guinea pig pellets, looked pretty good too, one big bucket full of a sloppy mess. Anyway I started a trail going and soon after the fish arrived, we scored some small bream at first around the 24-25cm size which were sent back with a message to get their bigger brothers. After 20 minutes and 6 little bream the word got out to the bigger ones and they came firing in. first up was 2 in the 29-30 cm range, then a flattie grabbed one of our baits and he went into the esky with the bream. Okay now we have a bit of a feed for Hutcho's neighbour, promise has been met. More baits go out and now we are down to only one rod each as things are getting hectic, Hutcho's line goes screaming off his reel and though it was a massive bream but as the pics show it is a nice Drummer of 46cm's. I scored a small Drummer as well, they were loving the small strips of squid. It went like this for the next hour or so, we were busted up in the reefy bits by either big bream or more drummer, we managed to get 2 more decent bream into the boat, they were 35/37cm's, the others we just couldn't get clear of the reef, the fish were lost but even the bust ups were fun.. Anyway that was our morning, good to out with Hutcho again, the old firm is back hahaha.. Enjoy the pics..
