Hi guys caught this fishing in the harbour. What is it and are they tasty he looked pretty good to eat. He went back in since I didn't know what it was.

Nannygai. Never tried eating it. Apparently ok/good but bony.

Oh so it is a nannygai I remember catching these guys on the barrier reef expect a fair bit bigger

Different critters you catch up there. The 2 common ones are Large and Small mouth Nannygais up the reef.

The ones in Sydney are Centroberyx Affinis , further south you get the Swallow Tail variety Cetrodryx lineatus.

Both good on the tooth if you can get them size.

Mate tasty as just bake them whole, white chunky flesh.

Nannys are very nice to eat. when you get the big ones fillet and bone and a quick fry in butter. yummy
