Botany Bay Fishing
Recently purchased some crab traps and really wanting to gather some info on crabbing for blue swimmer crabs in botany bay before i head out. Im aware of the rules and regulations surrounding crabbing, Just want to find out if blue swimmers are ample all year round, what weather conditions are best, baiting how long i leave the traps out and locations on where abouts is best
Flickn Mad
Not sure about Botany but my experience is that they shut down through winter and loose a lot of condition if you can get them. I have always done best around tide changes and fresh flatty carcase is hard to beat for bait. also found around built up areas it best to stay close to your traps as there are some very helpful people out there quite willing to check or even take home your traps. Botany Bay Fishing
haha thanks alot its a shame that you cant leave your traps out and fish somewhere else, and when you say lose condition, you mean the flavour of the crab?
Flickn Mad
When they loose condition there is a lot less meat in the body and not as good eating in my experience. something to do with breeding or malting season.
kingie chaser
There are heaps in the bay in summer, I wouldn't go to far from them either as someone will steel them pretty quickly!
