Seabirds not shy.

I went for a swim in the Shelly Beach pool last week, water was great.

Swimming across the end of the pool I saw two sea birds sitting on the posts that hold the chains on preening their plumage. (partly black head with what looked like a tuft at the back of their head, Terns?)

As I swam past them they seemed to take a keen interest in my efforts so I stopped and slowly made my way over to them with just my head above water.

The little buggers were totally unafraid, even friendly. Next time I plan to take my Go Pro out and see if I can get some classic shots of them looking down at me from less than a meter away.

I love taking pics of birds, particularly seabirds. Any other Raiders have the same interest?

Cheers

Oh wow those pics are amazing. I used to fascinated by birds when I was younger. Would always read everything about them in books.

Back for a swim this afternoon and saw one of the Terns sitting on a post totally unafraid of me in the water next to him.

Anyone know of a way to carry a Go Pro whilst swimming?

Cheers

My kids use a leg rope off a surfboard! Works great!

From memory, these pictures of birds were taken on Fraser Island.

I was doing a family holiday thing and you know what, I didn't wet a line. I just watched ( and swam with)

metre plus kingies, huge bluefish and massive mullet.

May the gods of fishing forgive me my sins!

I have and use the GoPro head strap, H. Works just fine, along with the wrist remote to turn the camera on and off.

Okay, just to keep with the theme, Spotted Shag or Parekareka, on NZ North Island.
