james3210
Hi All, Has anyone had any success using fresh mussel from fish shop to target whiting? 1kg per pack. They said the mussels are still alive. Im wondering whether the mussels are cleaned using fresh water or saltwater.
Davemmm
As far as i know all black mussels are alive when you buy them, not sure about the green Kiwi ones. i have used them for bream but that was a while ago when there were still a few hanging off the side of wharves around the Georges. A little hard to keep on the hook but they go alright. Dave

Sydneyfisher12
I've used it before and not had much success only a few little pickers I've also heard its good to hook it with the shell on it because it will look more natural
Linc
Awesome fished unweighted for bream, never targeted whiting with them. As long as you're fishing a place likely to have mussels growing naturally then they should do the trick I'd say.
Yowie
Mussels are good bait for bream, however, are a soft bait that does not stay on the hook very easily. Better at night when the pickers are less abundant. Better still, mussels are good eating for humans: finely chopped tomatoes in a sauce, a few herbs, garlic, finely chopped onion and fresh bread to mop up the sauce. james3210
It seems like good for bream but not whiting? Anyway gonna give it a go this weekend and hopefully some good report along with it.
