If you mean ideal as in so you are comfortable I like it to be under 10 knots when I'm fishing open areas. If you are in a river or you have cover then more than 10 knots is ok just depends on the specific place. Sometimes a bit of wind is good to help with casting distance if it's going in the direction you want. If the wind is going against where you want to go then that is crap. Guest no one Posted October 14, 2014 Share Posted October 14, 2014 Nick - it all depends on where you are, if you're on a rock sheltered by the wind but the tide is running into the wind what exactly would it affect apart from a float or surface fishing? On a boat it's a different story as try heading into the wind with the waves fighting against them, results in a rough ride! But for the fish biting... The tide is stronger than the wind so the bait under the water won't be affected too much. When I used to fish lakes in the uk I fished at the bottom where the wind was blowing a when lake fishing a lot of the fish are eating insects being blown into the water which all end up in one corner from the surface breeze. End of the day it all depends on the variables you can affect (where and how you're fishing) to how it will affect the fishing.
