Have always called the first one a batfish, caught plenty in Port Hacking, usually more so after heavy rain when the water colours up a bit.

The second one is a species of batfish, usually caught further north of NSW.

Diamond-Fish or Butter Bream. Monodactylus argenteus (Linnaeus.) Also known as;Silver Batfish; Butterfish; Butter-Bream

"Very common species in bays and estuaries in proximity to jetties and landings. Grow to at least 10.5 inches and at that size are very good eating"
