Hi all,

Looking at buying the attached boat for $15K and I'd like some opinions from the experienced boaties if it looks like a good buy please.

I'm yet to have a a look at it physically but depending on the feedback I get I'll go and have a sticky tomorrow. All I know of the boat is that it is a 17ft 1995 hull with a 2 stroke 125 Mercury on the back.

I'd really really appreciate any opinions.

Thanks in advance guys.

Savage Escort's were good boats back in the day and the Tasman/Escort hull is one of the better 17 foot boats made. She would perform well with that 125HP and they are solid engines if looked after. As mentioned by tef1on, if YOU like the boat and think it good value then go for a run and I would be pleased to own a boat like in the picture.

Thank you huey appreciate it mate.

Was wondering if it were worth it for $15,000 and just wanted some more experienced opinions, and now I'll check out the boat and make sure it isn't in bad condition.

Thanks

Geoff

Looks good to me.I recently purchased a Savage Tasman 520 which according to Huey is the same hull. The hulls ride in the chop and swell is great but a little bum heavy. The only down side is fuel consumption, mine has a 115 Yamaha saltwater series and it sucks the fuel, yours might be better,I hope so.Yours has the split screen which is so handy. If I was still looking I would be all over that at that price.

Yeah I took it for a test ride last Sunday and it was one powerful boat. I don't think he opened it up all the way as it was very choppy last week, and I had the kids in the boat also to see how it would handle the weight, and they were scared so he didn't give it full throttle.

I also had a pre-purchase inspection done on the boat as I was very keen, but I dropped off as some members on another forum weren't that impressed with the boats looks, and they tend to think that it wouldn't handle too well outside.

The inspection come back OK saying there is some gel coat repairs required on the very edge of the transom and under the hull from beaching (but not major) and the compression was 140psi for 3 and 135psi for the other. The sparks were all strong also and he reports there is no backlash in the gears.

Huey said it would be a great buy for the 15k and I respect he's honesty as I was asking about buying a boat from him, and he could have quite easily bagged that boat to get me into one of his but he's an honest man and I really really have a great opinion of him.

Any how I'm still not 100% sure what to do and I was going to drop down and have a look in Huey's yard and possibly a few others.

Bro, those other forum guys... Won't handle well outside? What the actual ****

She looks perfect for a trip outside, 125hp and a deep hull, she'll ride well... I mean pick your days but no issues at all!

It's a very good deal for 15k, and better than most in that price range if you don't buy it you've missed a good deal!

You need to be happy with it. Its a lot of money to not be happy and really

what other people think just plays on any doubt you have. You've got an opinion

from a very experianced person in huey and some negative ones

from people you've never met.

Keep looking around and you'll be able to compare with this one

and if you find yourself keeping on going back to this one, then you've probably

got your answer.

I've fished quite often out of a mates Savage and it rides quite well. We have done plenty of trips to the shelf on good days and it goes really well. There may be better riding boats out there and I know there are worse, but for $15G it looks a good thing...........

is the engine 1995 as well ?
its pushing the age envelope for reliable boating outside, but that's just my view

basic hull shape and a less appreciated boat hence the price being asked.
the equivalent haines cruisecraft would go for more

not able to link boats here but if this isn't 100% exciting you to buy it id hold off till winter as there are more boats listed during the winter months at better prices

The price is in the motor ,1995 motor only worth maybe 3k so what 12 for hull doesn't make sense I'll be getting rid of my boat for similar price with a 3 yr old etec and all the. Extras .so u might want price up one with a newer motor

Appreciate the opinions and advice everyone.

I ended up by buying the boat, I got it for $14,500.

The motor is a 2002 model saltwater series and as I said I did have hull and motor pre-inspected for the cost of $200. He told me the compression was good, the sparks were strong and also said it was one of the cleanest Mercs for that age he had seen.

I appreciate all the advice I receive from this forum and others I am involved with. I certainly listen to what I am advised and I take it all on board. With this boat it appealed to me for size and the Mrs was keen on this one as well, so based on the inspection I had done I decided to go with it.

Appreciate all of the advice and replies, and when I finally make it out I'll be sure to fill you all in.
