DaleB
Hi All, Last weekend did a little beach fishing (4 times now, still no fish) anyway lost 1 set of gang hooks, and thinking it may have been my knot. Just wondering if anyone can recommend the best knots to use on a beach rig, using 20lb mono with 30lb leader, Thanks in advance
Fab1
A well tied and lubricated uni knot won't let you down. Are you sure it wasn't something with teeth snipping your line?Tailor maybe? The way I look at it,line comes up with a pigtail(curly end)=Knot failure,my fault. Line comes up with a clean cut=Something with dentures, sharp object. krause
Fab1 is on the money. If it was a clean cut then it was most likely a tailor. I use a locked blood knot. Never had a problem

Just wondering if anyone can recommend the best knots to use on a beach rig, using 20lb mono with 30lb leader, Thanks in advance For me a curly end coming back means the knot has slipped. A snapped knot or bitten off are hard to tell the difference looking at the line, but usually a snapped knot will be caused by too much pressure and bitten off feels like no where near the pressure it should take to break a knot. I can recommend a half blood knot for your 30lb leader. 6-7 turns and you won't have any slip problems.

I use that and finish with a half-granny knot to be sure. If that makes sense.
rrreese
I love my scaffold knot for fluro and mono. Neat, small, easy and fast to tie, doesn't weaken line too much and never slipped in the slightest for Me. Stood up to 100lb+ sharks and rays no dramas. Reliable in as light as 6lb up to 100lb+
