Fizza
Hi, I have bought a new rod and it is rated something like 2-5 kilos, what does this actually mean?. Thanks
Fizza
You can run 2-5kg line through it with "normal" drag settings. Actually you can run 50lb line through it as long as you treat it like 2-5kg line. 71177[/snapback] Thanks swoffa, otherwise it could snap the rod? Ken A
I wouldn't take any notice of rod ratings at all. Its just mumbo jumbo bullshit. Like 15 to 24kg rods How can any rod suitable for 15kg be suitable for 24kg. Its a load of rubbish. I have a rod by a popular brand rated 1 to 4 kg & it never ceases to make me laugh every time I see that on the rod. It can just load enough to fish 2kg effectively but with 4kg it would be miles too soft.
bung
rods will obviously have an optimum line class, although my 15kg sabre LBG rod will comfortably (and nicely) fish 10 and 24kg.
the_lure
I fish 5kg on my 2-4kg spin stick and use a higher than average drag at times for the jews and kings, no probs at all and the rod perfoms flawlessly, theres quite a few others Im sure that do the same. It isnt just expensive rod brands either, I do this with my Berkley Dropshots..
