Heavier jigheads from a boat?

Can you use heavier jigheads (and get more distance) from a boat when compared to LB. My reasoning is when fishing from a boat the lure is usually in deeper water compared to LB, so your line is pulling up at a more vertical angle. When you hop and wind in,  wouldn't your line naturally be slowing the jighead descent because of it's angle?  I've always read the descent speed of the SP  shouldn't be too fast.  So the deeper the water the more influence your line would have on jighead drop rate.

Is this correct? Is this a silly question??

G'day Richard, it's not a silly question. I think you have a pretty good grasp of the principle of sp fishing. Yes it may require a slightly heavier jighead, if the water is deeper but equally importantly the presentation has to appear natural. You can still use a heavier jig head and cast further, if you vary the retrieve so the sp is "in the zone". The conditions change frequently in tidal waters and so it pays to try different things anyway. BN
