Sounded on while fishing or off

Hi All

once you have found your fishing spot X Do you turn your sounder off or leave it on?

i read somewhere the sounder can scare of the fish with its signal?

 I leave it on but depending on the situation may make a difference however the boat seems to scare more than the sounder if get my drift

If it's a powerful unit in shallow water I believe it will put the fish off. I've scuba dived under transducer where I've felt the pulse, I believe fish are more sensitive than us. In saying that bait fish will sit almost under the transducer with very little concern to it running.

In saying that I don't personally turn off my Lowrance unit, mainly because I only do 2-3 drifts over any given mark, also Lowrance units don't seem to need as much power to penetrate the depths.

I turn mine off when fishing for snapper..i think it puts them off in shallow water...lean over the transom and you can hear the tranny clicking...if I can hear it im sure they can hear it..rick
