Sic/roller Tip

want to use rod for troll,stand-up,,,,,and hears the kicker"JIGGING" but with lighter two speed.sst-16 or penn16-vsx with 65-80 braid.worried about roller top compared to sic.any opinions?these 2-speed models have bulk tourque and good retrieve.enought to turn heads of nastiest hoodlum's?????what would you choose?and what lenght?

Roller tips are fine if you are prepared to clean & lube them. They are NOT maintenance free. If you aren't prepared to look after them go with a SIC tip.

kinda depends on the action of the rod and the speed of the fish, doesn't it?

Fast long running fish = roller tip for less friction.

For rods that don't really bend that result in a 90 degree angle when fighting fish, the roller is the goer.

Go the sic. The tips that go with the fugi longfoot series are pretty hefty, with heaps of material for heat dissipation, although this is less critical with braid.

Sooner or later you will chuck out a livie,(probably after 20 minutes jigging) and the minute you take your eye off it, it will get eaten and take off at 90 degrees to your rod. trouble on a roller, no worries on a sic. If you want a roller, don't go for less than aftco.
