Circle Hooks - Info needed

HI 

I was using a size 4 circle hook for Bream /Whiting and couldn't catch any fish . I had better luck with  J hook. I was told  for circle hooks we don't need to set the hook . Is that true ? Also found it easier to put bait on the J hook.

Would like to know if we need to set the hook for circle hooks or can we just cast and leave it until we get a bite.

if you set your drag right, the hook will do all the work mate........you dont need to strike with circles

circle hooks would not be my choice for whiting..stick to long shank hooks...ive been down the circle hook path and I just stick to 540 French hooks for bream or suicides work as well..i tried them on snapper and imo they are a fail on reds..too bony in the mouth..rick

they are good on rough bottom, just let the fish take drage then wind in

best in deepwater and with tough baits or livies

Circle hooks are great on Kings, dolphin fish, salmon and other Pelagius, but I wouldn’t bother with whiting or bream - OK for flatties.
