Rust spots

I’ve had my quintrex for about 6 months purchased 2nd hand in good condition. I’ve started to notice small rust spots on the  gunwhales. I wash and rinse the boat after every use and have been using T20 wash n wax, I’m beginning to think this might be doing more harm than good.

Has anyone got any ideas how to get rid of or prevent these rust spots.

I know I haven't had a grinder near my boat but I have drilled a couple of holes... Maybe I didn't clean it up that well either. Could it be electrolysis??

Well, aluminium doesn’t rust but maybe some steel got into/made those holes? I have a portable aluminium BBQ on my balcony - it has signs of rust but only in the paint. Maybe there’s an iron component in the paint. 😉

Aluminium does not rust...but it does corrode just like all metals.

What you could be seeing in this photo is corrosion in the aluminium with the by product having a reaction with the paint.
