Pauafritta
I caught a 90cm Kingfish last week and the drag was very jerky, so I decided to open the reel to have a look and maybe grease it. I have 2 of these reels and have noticed inside they are different. One of the reels is missing a cog on the main rod that holds the spool. Not sure how it could have come it, maybe from factory? One reel has the cog and a washer and the other reel just has the washer. How important is the cog? If it is needed where do you get new ones? Photo of the cog below. PaddyT
have a look at the schematic for the reel, otherwise ask Shimano
xerotao
Did you buy these reels brand new? have they been serviced by someone? Id say the "cog" is significantly important as it is called a Spool Support. and it also makes your drag go "clicky" You can order this part off Shimano spare parts. Part number is "RD16285 - Spool Support" Edited June 20, 2019 by xerotao
xerotao
Also you dont need to open the reel to regrease the drags. The drag stack is inside the spool.
Rebel
Hi, Shimano are great people, just give them a ring at Taren Pt. They will help you.
