SaltyGreek
Hi all I remember my Dad and my Godfather going out on the Hawkesbury for 3 days to fish in the Hawkesbury classic. They used to catch some good fish but other times they would only catch bi catch of eels, catfish and sharks. Once they were fishing at Juno Point for Jew and the guy fishing right next to them caught the winning Jew that was 7kg if I can remember correctly. They came home once from the 3 days and they said to me next year you’ll come with us. I was keen to try and win the junior biggest fish but then a few months later I heard that it stopped running. My dad said something happened to the club that ran it. Does anybody know exactly what happened? Edited November 20, 2019 by SaltyGreek
Scratchie
Don’t know myself but I do remember fishing it in 2011 and I won a category. It was an epic 3 days with a fellow fishraider. Although the hangover lasted 3 weeks 🤢🤢. I would be interested to know as well. cheers scratchie!!!
frankS
I fished the Classic for many years and won several prizes, never the major. was well run and the auction at the end of the classic was great, picked up many great items. I had no idea it had ended, don't know why. Frank
PaddyT
My understanding was this- the same guys organised it year after year after year, when they couldnt do it any more (and i dont know the reasons why) no one else took up the cudgels. seasponge
The Hawkesbury Jewfish facebook page recently ran a catch and release Hawkesbury Jewfish Competition in September. I wasn't able to participate, but from all accounts there were quite a few boats involved and plenty of prizes, presentations down at Parsley Bay. They're looking at having it yearly (possibly every 6months).
