Stats are in from NSW Maritime compliance op on the weekend, and new vision as well from north and south coast of NSW. These videos show what happens when you are stopped by the Maritime officers. 

North coast vision  PORT STEPHENS

STATISTICS

Northern Area:

  • More than 1300 vessels checked over the long weekend
  • Approximately 22% of these were PWCs
  • 53 penalty notices were issued
  • 76 official cautions
  • Tweed River, Forster, Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie were busy locations.

 

Top offences

  • Not carrying correct safety equipment
  • Not wearing a lifejacket
  • Failure to maintain lifejackets – service lifejacket
  • Expired safety equipment – EPIRB, flares
  • Unregistered vessel

 

Sydney Area:

  • More than 2200 vessels checked over the long weekend
  • Approximately 27% of these were PWCs (630) checks
  • 303 penalty notices were issued
  • 234 official cautions
  • Georges River, Hawkesbury and Nepean Rivers were busy locations.

 

Top offences

  • Not carrying specified safety equipment
  • Vessel speeding
  • PWC speeding
  • Not wearing lifejacket when alone or with under 12 years old
  • Unregistered vessel

 

Southern Area:

  • More than 900 vessels checked over the long weekend
  • 7% of these were PWCs
  • 43 penalty notices issued
  • 40 official cautions issued

 

Top offences:

  • Not carrying specified safety equipment
  • Not replacing expired safety equipment e.g. flares, EPIRB
  • Not carrying lifejackets
  • Unregistered vessel
  • Lake Conjola, St Georges Basin, Tuross, Batemans Bay, Jervis Bay and the Murray River were busy locations.

These offences were consistent across the state.
