Going fishing at Patonga Wharf

Better to take the tackle in with you, nearest store iirc is at west Gosford.

You don’t need anything special to fish there , a 7ft spin outfit 2-4kg range with line around 10lb , a running sinker rig with a small sinker ( no current there ) , a 2/0-4/0 long shank hook baited with a Hawkesbury river prawn ( frozen from BCF ) or a half pilchard will do fine . Cast out and very slowly retrieve the line - keep the bait moving and fan the casts out in all directions . You could do the same walking along the beach . In the creek you can wade out to the deeper holes down near the mouth or when you come into patonga keep following the road around to the right and it goes up to a dead end( jacaranda ave) , from there you can walk up stream . Sometimes you can get poddymullet there but always found it a bit hit and miss , there are nippers up there too but you will have to look for them , I used to go upstream from jacaranda to the sandbar by boat to get mine .

Looking to go fishing for flathead at Patonga Wharf/Creek, any tips in terms of baiting, rigs, and where to find bait and tackle in Umina Beach area?

@Hoppo download our app Deckee
