jaybez Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 Went to lake conjola, at the steps, only caught a little one on the 75mm double clutch Went on the kayak, one hit about five minutes in then nothing for the next two hours. The hit would have been a mid fortys flattie, but it shook hooks at the surface. Wind kicked up on the way back in. Went to Batemans, caught two keepers about 39 long each. Definitely gonna bleed all my flatties in the future. Bled one and not the other and could tell the blood taste when eating the one I hadn't bled. The two keepers were caught on soft plastics. 10
Fried Rice Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 Nice to get a couple of keepers Jaybez. I've got some good fish drifting the steps. I've never tried it land based.
jaybez Posted November 1, 2023 Author Posted November 1, 2023 Yeah I want sure how to fish the steps, was meant to have a fishing buddy with me, but he couldn't come along so ended up with my dad, who has no clue 😆 Where exactly do you go off the steps?
Little_Flatty Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 Nice catch @jaybez. Never bled flathead before, interesting observation.
noelm Posted November 1, 2023 Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) Caught and eaten literally hundreds of Flathead, and fished with people who bleed, don’t bleed, ice slurry, don’t ice slurry, just ice, kill immediately, and can’t say I have noticed any difference ever, except…….once when my mate caught one and just left it in a bucket for an hour or so, in summer, it was “different” Edited November 1, 2023 by noelm 2
