  1. Hey raiders. Hopefully heading up to Berowra or the Hawkesbury next week, and i wanna try and have a go at any fish, but my main target is the Jewie. Never got myself a jewie, but i've read many things about fishing the jewie, such as best moon phases and tides. But i just wanna make sure, for all you Jewie lovers, what the best time to fish the jewie, if you dont mind sharing this information. Atm i got a 20lb mono on my reel, and im hoping to go to a local tackle store and get a 30lb leader, but i've also got the Mustad Big Red 2 Hook Snapper rig which is 50lb line and 5/0 Octopus Hooks . I have this because i want to try catch some squid for a bit and try my luck using them for live bait, or even some yakkas. And if you dont mind telling me where in the hawkesbury is some good squid fishing if you dont mind telling me this information. Thanks -Luke1
  2. went up to nelsons bay on the long weekend, but i read in the newspaper, back then, that the snapper were going good to around 6kg, but they said they were being caught on sps.
  3. god damn, lucky you, bloody love stockton, awesome view. Dont go up there much, but the fish can be really good at times i've heard. Good luck with the trip mate, hope you get a good jewie
  4. hey mate. you should try different baits, and check the tides, wheather and all little things like that. Wheather plays a huge part in fishing, sometimes you get good, sometimes you dont. You should maybe for near some sort of structure of somesort depending on your species your targeting, cause the fish will hide in there and wait for the bait fish to come, then they pounce for the bait fish. Also the presentation of the bait can play a role in this. And also the site of hook, if its too big, and your targeting smaller fish for eg. bream, you got no chance, where as a smaller good, preferably a 8/0 long shank for me works for bream. But then again, fishing can also be the waiting game, just have to be patient, if you get bored (like i tend to do sometimes) i chuck a lure on my line and chuck that out a couple of times, so i am alot more occupied. I also like Braided line a lot more then mono, it may be more expensive, but i find braid better then mono, but there is down falls for braid. I personally would use (when baiting) braid line, probally around 10lb, and a 15lb Mono line. I find this works a lot more. -Luke1

    Jigging Rods

Hey Fishraiders. i wouldn't mind starting to get into jigging. But firstly i need a rod and reel. The price range im looking for is around $350 max for the reel, and $400 for the Rod. Brand names dont bother me, but if it means better quality then thats a benefit. And i also would need some Braided line aswell, just wondering, how many pounds/kgs should i get for my braid. Thanks for the help. Luke1
  8. you should've jumped in, and stole your kingy back off him, and show him whos boss.
  9. all i know is that the fish is a Wrasse, dont know what species of Wrasse it is though.
  10. nice big hoodlum there, cant wait to even get my first king, even if its a ratie.
  11. to be honest, i think they're actually quite nice, despite it being a bait fish.

    Nelsons Bay

hey raiders. heading up to Nelsons Bay for the long weekend, around the Shoal Bay area. hoping to catch some good blackfish and try to get some squid and do some live baiting. What i wanna ask is, if anyone has been around there or know anyone, or even just how the fishing is going up there, cause i want to bring the right tackle and what not, to go get some fish. Thanks -Luke1

    Gulps

To be honest, i find any plastics work in any sort of water, but i may be wrong, cause i dont reguarly do sp fishing, im usually into Live Baits.
  15. Hey Mate. Yea go up to Sussex inlet every year for the last 3 years, some good estuary fishing up there. At this time i've seen people get some tailor, even some decent size Travally, and also last year on a sp i managed to get a 76cm flatty. If you know a place called Alemien Rd, there should be a little holiday park(i wont tell you which one because of the site rules), and down the road more theres a jetty, what ever you wanna call it, and if you go in the morning and at night, you could pick up some decent Tailor, around 40cm at this time, maybe even more. You can use some metals, but even diving lures can produce some tailor. And on that jetty is also where i got that flatty. This is the only place that i really know of that accesible by foot, but others are by boat. If you willing to spend some money for a little boat hire, which is a little tinny, though its not to bad, you might get some flatties in, if you want to put in the time to do that ofcourse. Good luck with the trip mate. -Luke1

    Swansea

i've heard theres some good squidding up around the Swansea area, just not sure around what time of year, but its always good to give it a shot, and get a seafood platter of fish and calamari Good Luck with the trip, even though its quite a while away.
  17. not sure if this is true or not, but i've heard when using live baits, there mouths might open up, because the parasites are going out of the fishes body, and do whatever from there. Correct me if im wrong though.
  18. hey raiders. going up to Nelsons Bay, Shoal Bay area for the queens long weekend holiday 5-8th June. Hope to catch some fish. Just wondering if any of you people know what sort of fish species are up around there at this time. And also was wondering if i should use some sort of techniques, or rigs, baits or lures that can be used. Hoping to go catch some squid and try my luck using some for livies, and so i got myself some Mustad Big Red 2 Hook Snapper Rig, hoping to go for my first Jewie. I also wouldn't mind if some of you raiders would ask me(if your ok with it) what lures i should by, cause i wanna just spend some money for some more tackle for my fishing trip. Forgot to add. Also me and my old man wouldn't mind going on a charter boat going for some fish, just dont want to spend more the $120 each. Thanks for the help, much appreciated. -luke1
