  1. Hey guys, over the next 10 days my girlfriend and i are driving up north and back in a campervan. we will probably not get much further than byron but even still, i do not know much about fishing outside of sydney. I was hoping someone would be able to drop me a few good fishin destinations on the way up, be it a beach, safe rocks or land. also i am pretty inexperienced in beach fishing so what kind of rigs and baits should i be using, and what should i be looking for? (i.e. edge of a gutter etc) also if anyone else knows any cool destinations to check out on our trip it would be very helpful, we have not planned anything and are after an amazing adventure. thanks heaps guys. cheers, dave.
  2. wow great capture, we pulled a few striped tuna out of bait bustups this morning. its the first time iv seen them inside the harbour. are they common inside the heads?
  3. hey guys, my mate has just purchased a stessco renegade aluminium side console. this week our project is to install a transom mounted livebait tank. i have never done this style before and i have never worked with an aluminium boat so i was wondering if anyone had any tips for building this? also where are some good places to buy the actual drop in tank unit? i have seen a couple at BCF but they are all pretty small. i want this to turn out looking like a professional job for him so im looking for the type with a lift up port style lid. Any help you guys could give me would be extremely helpful raiders as i have been quoted at around $600-750 to have this done by a pro. Cheers guys. Tight lines this weekend.. Dave Esber
  4. hey mate, the same thing happened to me a year or two ago. i put a post on here and i ended up being contacted by the owner and returning his gear safely. good karma is coming to you for sure.
  5. hey guys, just after some opinions on what you think would make a good all-rounder rod for use in the harbour targeting bream, flatties, trevally, snapper, tailor, salmon and small kings, on plastics, metals and bait. i would like to match it to a 2500 certate. i think i would prefer a longer butt and preferrably cork. looking to spend up to $350. thanks for your opinions guys.
  6. hey guys, could anyone please pm me details of any good fishing charters you have been on around sydney. i wish to do a christmas trip with my father and uncles, so about 8 people. any details would be great. thanks heaps. dave.
  7. Could give it a rubdown with an anodizing stone
  8. Hey guys, does anyone know if it's possible to get a drag upgrade for an old spheros 6000fa? If so, where snouts and do you know aprox how much? Thanks for the info guys Dave
  9. BUMP. can any landbased people help this kid? mate im not very experienced with land based fishing but if i were going to have a try i would use a float or a baloon with a 1.5m leader and sinker to a 4/0-6/0 hoodlum hook. pinned through the top of a large fresh squid strip. unless your squid is fresh i would use live yellowtails, pinned about through the back, between the dorsal fin and the head, about 3mm deep. cast it off the wharfe about 15m out and wait for the kingys.
  10. hey mate, im a uni student also so i understand the blight of being a bit pov. dont buy a temporary reel. you will only want to upgrade it straight away. i have been through way too much tackle for my income level and i finally have a nice combo which im happy with. 8000 saragossa and pe3-6 jigging rod. find some work and do 1 extra shift and you should be able to afford the saltist or whatever you pick. (i personally went saragossa for the low ratio for jigging). also i wouldnt worry about drag ratings. anything about 10 should be sweet. after all they fish for marlin with 8kg drag! i always try to support my local tackle store but sometimes you have to ask them to match or come close to an internet price as theres some pretty cheap online shops out there. worst comes to worst, get a nice big pen spinfisher. its a super tough reel and the fact that most charters use them sais a lot about them. also check out the spheros. not as smooth as the saragossa but another nice reel. keep putting in the hours trying to catch fresh squid or keeping yakkas alive until you can drop them at the known kingfish haunts and you will no doubt get onto some kings this season. P.S. ill give you a tip. contrasting to what a lot of people on the forums think, i reccon the kingy season started 4 months ago! (thats if they ever went away)
  11. hey mate, im finished uni in a week so ill be fishing tons after that. should be able to get you out for a few wednesdays.
  12. +1 for Huey. He sorted us some new stainless wire steering for pretty damn cheap. Also the impellor has nothing to do with steering, it's part of the cooling system in the engine. Ask your mechanic what he did and The price and ask a raider if you have been taken for a ride.
  13. thanks for your help guys, i was just curious but you gave me all the answers. cheers. Dave p.s. the boat looks amazing!
  14. the stradic ci4's body is made out of a different material therefore it is lighter. it also has some aesthetic differences and a different handle. i also have a 2500fi, top reel mate. just remember, its not about how much it weighs, its about how well it balances with your rod.
  15. so what would be the aproximate total cost to import and legalise a 5m plate boat? incl. all fees and licenses needed to use it on sydney roads? thanks if anyone can answer it. Dave.

    Squid

Thanks mate, super helpful. I guess i just gotta keep at it. thanks for taking the time to reply. Dave.
  17. Both mate, they go ape shit over the tuna oil, and the pellets give them something to much on while helping the tuna oil sink below the surface.
  18. we keep a big tub of chicken pellets on the boat. just add a little bit of tuna oil and pop in, berleys up EVERYTHING. Also good for bream etc. whenever we catch a fish out of our berley trail its stomach is PACKED with pellet mulch.

    Boat Insurance

Hey guys, im just after some advice on boat insurance. So i have been using a pretty run down boat for the past few years and i think its time to upgrade. I am thinking of a new 15ft aluminium boat valued at around $18,000 but i have nowhere to garage it. I have been parking my current 15ft boat on the street outside my mates place with no issues so far however if i get a new boat then i HAVE to have insurance, so i have a few questions that i think you guys might be able to help me with.. *will i be able to get full comprehensive insurance for a boat parked on a quiet street? *what anti-theft devices would they require? *will the insurance cover thefts such as someone nicking my battery or will there be an excess on things like that *around what kind of premium should i expect to pay, this is still a maybe so i am trying to think about everything first. *what insurers have you guys found to be the best? Thakns HEAPS for helping me out raiders. cheers. Regards Dave
  21. + 1 to saragosa. the US website states that the saltist is actually 33 lb not kg of drag. also i dont think the rotor on it would be strong enough to take more then that. I have never jiggged with a high speed reel but from what i have heard you want a low speed spinning or a high speed overhead. saltist is made for spinning, saragossa is made for jigging. goodluck with whatever you choose mate.
  22. haha who is this guy "he said to jump on the boat and fight the fish", Hahahahahaha! Always have backseat drivers with no experience trying to tell you how to do things. I cant believe someone actually told you to let him take over your fish of a lifetime. so selfish.
  23. just so people watching this video dont get the wrong idea, when fighting a fish DO NOT drop the rod and wind in the slack, instead, wind the reel while partially relaxing your strength on the rod so that you are winding the rod down. there should always be a bend in the rod or it will result in a hook getting pulled or a jerking action on the line when the fish comes tight in it (which can break it as in this case).
  24. This is what i did.. shimano saragossa 8000 = $300 Vfox T-Blade Jigging rod = 180 ygk jigging braid = $65 saying that i am no expert and i havnt used this rod yet for jigging.
