  1. Some people will dissagree but this is how i spend the last hour of a day if i havnt caught a feed. dont want to say exact spots but anywhere in the harbour known to hold kingfish, fish moving tide, berley hard and CONTINUOUS, drift big strips of tailor or fresh squid down with only a little pea sinker, small hook and 6lb fluoro. strike on any bite. let any BIG ones go because they arent very good eating and are important to our fish stocks and cut off any hooks that are swallowed by undersize fish rather then ripping their throat out.
  2. If at night berley hard off sow and pigs, however you will have trouble finding any small ones, they are all horses.
  3. Best time to catch jews is when you have a line in the water...
  4. hahaha, or you could just use some common sense and weigh yourself with and without the fish. far more accurate than a spring scale.

    slimies

they will be at the back of the berley trail behind the yakkas. cast out an unwaited little pillie chuck and let it slowly sing.
  6. if you cannot tie a swivel i think braid is a little out of your league due to the complex knots you need to tie to rig up. alternatively you can take the bull by the horns and learn to tie knots, its pretty simple and an important part of fishing. furthermore it will open up a whole load of new fishing opportunities for you such as soft plastics, floats, unweighted baits etc.
  7. biggest advice is to wake up 2 hours earlier! fish wherever you are going to fish but put some baits on the bottom for jews. between 3-6 tomorrow morning is a great time for jews.
  8. sorry to disagree but to maximise your chances of clean hooking and landing a good fish, use a double snelled rig, if your towing it use a livie on top through tip of hood and an octopus hook down through the bottom of hood and out the head.
  9. some people even claim the noise attracts the kingys to have a look. their pretty inquisitive fish.
  10. this question is extremely specific to the place you fish. every spot fires at different times. sometimes even spots 50m away fire at opposing tides.
  11. im gonna have a go from mort bay tonight if anyone is keen?
  12. or alternatively try buying some octopus and use the tentacles as soft plastics. you dont need much and you can get about 2 kilos for the price of a pack of gulps!
  13. squidgy bloodworm wriglers, gulp 4in or 3 inch pumkinseed minnows, 5in squidgy flickbaits in clearish white.
  14. hey mate, i am currently in between jobs and only at uni on mondays. im really keen to learn blacky fishing so if you ever want someone to join you send me a PM. i live in balmain and have a car so i can get most places.
  15. one must learn to walk before they can run, one must learn to squid before they can regularly catch kingys off markers... alternatively you could go to decosties at the fish markets and buy some hawksbury calamari, however this will costs you an arm and a leg, with kingfish being a lot cheaper.
  16. where abouts would you be going?
  17. check out HOTS rods, and jiggingmaster. they are premium rods and you get what you pay for. high end brand name rods you do pay somewhat for the name.
  18. Great thanks man, i think i might grab this and start learning the dark art of luderick fishing. again if theres anybody out there who knows where i can find info or background on this rod a PM would be great. Oh and if there is anyone who fishes for blackies around balmain anywhere and wouldnt mind teaching me the ropes it would be extremely helpful!
  19. Thanks mate, didnt realise guides were so expensive! on a rod like that i doubt id need amazing fuji guides though. If anybody can offer me any information on this rod it would be greatly appreciated.
  20. wacko if you ever need a deckhand to cut pillies, feed lines, tie knots, LET ME KNOW!!! im sure i could learn a lot from you!
  21. or is there anybody in particular i should send this question to as a message?
  22. i agree about the tides! changed direction twice in 2 hours!
  23. Hey guys, i was at the markets grabbing a beach rod ($12 bargain!) when i saw a nice old blackfish rod sitting in the barrel. it is in decent condition howver most of the guides are looking like they are ready to come off and the finish looks a bit dodge. it looked to be about 15 ft, maybe more, had a ribbed timber butt, and the labeling on it said "PASTIME - Butterworth handmade Brisbane, LB/19.." i was thinking it might be fun to grab it, rebuild and have an attempt at some of the balmain blackfish the propper way. would anybody be able to tell me how much they think this rod would be worth (he wanted $35 which i thought might be a bit steep unless its a collectors) and if it would be relatively easy to re-guide and refinish? Is it worth the effort? (it may sound greedy but i dont want to spend time and money rebuilding a rod that isnt worth much). thanks for your help guys, cheers.
  24. hey guys, iv been fishing the harbour for a while now but iv never targeted jews. I have a fair bit of squid in the freezer so tonight/tomorrow morning i wanna hit the harbour in search of a jew. would anybody be able to fill me in on a few spots to anchor up and have a try? general areas are fine but id really appreciate any particular spots/landmarks/gps. Im not after anybody's secret 'spot x' as i think these must be earned. just after a few spots to try until i have my own 'spot x'. we launch from rose bay ramp. thanks heaps guys. tight lines to all.
  25. last time i fished there the skippers plan was to "look for a local pro boat" that berleys up with livies and always has a massive swarm of kings around them. just trawl yakkas or slimys around them (not too close obviousely)
