  1. Nice catch Yeeros . Iam also a landbased fisho and only caught rainbow runners up North. Great to see a rare capture of the rocks in an around Sydney Thats for all the effort we put into our fishing. Good luck for the rest of the season. Nick
  2. G day Raiders Looking for advice on what would be the best way to install pedestal seats to a fibreglass floor on my boat? The boat is a whiteline 4.8m fibreglass runabout , early 80's boat. The boat use to have back to back seats which i have removed. I know the floor will have ply underneath it and seems quite solid , but would like to install the seats without relying to much on the fibreglass floor. My thought was to cut two sections of marine ply 19mm glue them together with epoxy , and then epoxy them to the floor. I was also thinking of then fibreglassing over the ply to the floor so it becomes one solid unit and then fixing the pedestals to this solid base throught the new carpet. I know the floor will be raised through this section but planning on bevelling the ply on an angle so the height is not a toe crushing experience. Does this sound alright? Any valuable advice from felow raiders would be greatly appreciated ,as this is my first boat and would like to do a really good job on it. Thanks Nick

  7. whale reef is about 7 to 10 nm ne from north head(sydney harbour , manly) . I do not have the co ordinates but some one might be able to assist you with the co ordinates .if you have a book with gps marks for nsw it should be in there . We went out to the place the fad was at the year before but it had been moved to this location there is another fad not far from there aswell. One is the wave boy & the other is a fisheries fad . There also plenty of fish traps near twelve mile reef you coud give a go but again i do not have marks we came accross them going out to browns passing through 12 mile . good luck mate NICK
  8. Thats a nice flatty mate , Your son must have been stoked , what a fishing experience for him something he & you will never forget . By the sounds of it you have taught him well . Soon i mean in a couple of years he will be a fishing fanatic IF HE ISN'T ALREADY . Nice that you released the beast , many more flattys in the future coming from that mama . congrats keep up the good work happy fishing nick
  9. yes mate i was out on the fad at sydney which has now been moved near whale reef . if you want to land the big ones like i did getiing 2 nice dollies one 73cmand the 82cm and totally smoked on another one. drop your livies down about 40,50 m down depending on depth. youll be amazed at how a livie can jump out of the water getting chased by a dolly , pulling the sinker right out of the water , give it a go , i can pretty much guarrantee that you will lessen your chances of catching baby dollies . Also about these punters taking undersize fish, have enquired with fisheries . THERES NOT MUCH YOU CAN DO BUT WRITE THERE REGO DOWN & REPORT THEM TO FISHERIES . Only if fisheries gave power to the responsible fishos then maybe we could do someting about this .................. I know of some people given authorisation by fisheries to control these situations on heavily fished landbased locations . I am currently in the process of applying for a similar role to protect my local ledge about similar issues and others like rubbish dumping. anyways happy fishing & hope you get the bigger dollies nick
  10. nice cobes mate ,got some nice cobes myself from hat head a couple years ago ,the joys of fishing up north , looks like you had a top day , nice shovel nose too , great eating
  11. Another way of salting your fish would be , get yourself a 5 litre rectangle container ( $2 from go lo , reject shop ) . i use rock sea salt . Layer of about 10mm on the bottom of container ,then place your fillets skin down . Then cover the fillets with about another 10mm of rock sea salt . you can place another layer of fillets again & then cover again with 10mm of salt. Continue this process until container is full .Air seal the container ,place in the fridge . The next day pull out the countainer & tip out any liquid that has settled in the bottom of the container . Repeat this procedure for 2 days , your fillet will be very firm . You can use this procedure with whole fish too. hope i haver assisted you happy fishing nick
  12. G day mike My name is Nick known as mr kingy in the forums . About the offer about going out on tuesdays for a fish on your tinny . NICE TINNY BY THE WAY . I would really like to take you up on the offer. I am a subcontractor / chippy and from time to time i could get tuesdays of , or i could re arrange my week to go out for a fish ( rather be fishing than working ) . i know a lot of good spots in the harbour to get bait ( livies ) and i love chasing kings but also other species . I am a smoker myself so not to worry about that and i own a 80 series landcruiser ready to tow any boat . i own a boat but its out of action . new motor needed. If your keen to maybe take me up on the offer give us a call on 0438 406 714 or send us a message, ALWAYS KEEN FOR A FISH , LIKE THEY SAY FISH HARD OR GO HOME . NICK

  15. Last saturday decided to hit our spot. Weather condition again couldnt have been better .Arrived at 6 am beautiful sunrise , started spinning with not much success for the first 2 hours, nothing but a couple of follows . Dan was the first to hook on to a nice 86 cm 5.8 kilo kingy It was quickly brought to our feet on 30 kilo braid , after numerous attempts to gaff the fish he was washed up onto the rocks . nice fish Obviously seen dan hook up , the spinning was quickly recommenced , when suddenly good number of kings come on the follow. While having a chat on the rocks while spinning , Dans bait was crunched by a solid king snapping the gamakatsu hook in half , no hook up , but a bloody good sign of some solid fish hanging around . It was only ten or so minutes later when i was smashed by a solid fish , quickly the reel started screaming with some punishing runs even it with the drag set tight as it could go .After a ten minute fight which included some very tense moments , fish was gaffed . Fish was 98cm 8.2 kilos my p.b We decided to pack it in not long after to get the fish on ice . Top sashimi . Another awesome day on the rocks .
  16. Last saturday decided to hit our spot. obviously with my partners in crime dan & my brother Rod Weather condition again couldnt have been better .Arrived at 6 am beautiful sunrise , started spinning with not much success for the first 2 hours, nothing but a couple of follows . Dan was the first to hook on to a nice 86 cm 5.8 kilo kingy , it was quickly brought to our feet on 30 kilo braid , after numerous attempts to gaff the fish he was washed up onto the rocks . nice fish Obviously seen dan hook up , the spinning was quickly recommenced , when suddenly good number of kings come on the chew & follow. While having a chat on the rocks while spinning , Dans bait was crunched by a solid king snapping the gamakatsu hook in half , no hook up , but a bloody good sign of some solid fish hanging around . It was only ten or so minutes later when i was smashed by a solid fish and i was on , quickly the reel started screaming with some punishing runs even it with the drag set tight as it could go . knowing it was running that hard and with the bend in the rod it was time to stick it to him . After a ten minute fight which included some very tense moments , of the fish trying to reef me up he was gaffed . Fish was 98cm 8.2 kilos my p.b only 2cm shy of the metre . Top fish of the rocks . We decided to pack it in not long after to get the fish on ice . Top sashimi . Another awesome day on the rocks .

  18. Arrived at our spot at 6.00am last saturday. Perfect conditions NE nice bump in the ocean , nice colour water. Rigged up quickly and started spinning with my cousin Dan. Enquired with the other fishos , if anything had been caught or seen ( apparently nothing but a few follows they said salmon.) With that in mind we knew the fish were there, they had to be couldn't have asked for better conditions . After spinning for about 10 mins we had follows but no takes .I quickly turned to dan & chris another fisho and said wait till the sun comes up .Not long after the sun had risen Dan had follows 2 nice kings. I had a nice enquiry , but no hook up, not to worry ( encouraging ) bait was tail munched . I quickly went to rig up again , just finished rigging up when I LOOK UP & SEE DAN WAS ON A SOLID FISH(KING) I quickly put my rod down grabbed the gaff & before dan could say i need the gaff , i was standing next to him( teamwork). This fish was solid peeling 60lb braid like there was no drag set , but the drag was locked up. After taking some punishing runs trying to reef dan up , i told him to stick it to him . 10 mins later a solid king was at our feet nervously waiting to be washed up on the rocks ( gaff wasn't an extendable) . the fish was landed a solid 94cm king . After seeing that fish there had to be more out there.I grabbed my rod & started spinning . 5 mins had passed and Dan was back on the rocks spinning after a celebratorie ciggy. We continued spinning & getting continious follows . By now the other fishos packed it in. (as they say persistence pays ). We had the rock to ourselves . As i was spinning had a solid king follow all the way to the rocks , quickly casted again , as i was casting Dans bait was crunched ( love that feeling ) . Again the reel was screaming another solid king . This fish was a dirty fighter as they all are trying to reef dan up , but Dan was having none of that . he stuck it to him changing angles on the fish with the rod to get him away from the reef . After a solid 10 min fight the fish was at our feet again but this fish had more left in him ,he tried to reef him up under the rocks . Had no option but to free spool the him and then stick it to him again , the fish was finally washed up . This fish was dark obviously on the hunt and a hefty 97 cm not bad for the rocks . After a couple of happy snaps and celebaratory ciggies we started spinning again , with weather changing & 2 solid kings we decided to pack it in & get the fish on ice as quick as possible & head for a few I guess it wasn't my day i guess it had to be dans after catching over 40 kings & none keepers ( all released to fight another day). top day on the rocks ( landbased what a rush................... )
