  1. Hey Guys,

Looking for a regular fishing mate preferably closer to Narellan the better to fish out off Botany or Wollongong and the occassional trip to JB. Tired of mates pulling the pin at the last minute. If you've got the 4WD I've got the boat I've got a 6.4m Stacer centre console with a 175hp Merc on the back got all the gear for trolling offshore outriggers and such.

Keen to take it out tomorrow on Australia Day if possible.

Just send me a message and we'll go from there.

  2. Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me about what I can use to keep bait in my traps so far I've tried the plastic mesh pouches they didn't last long they got ripped to pieces and bait stolen with no crabs left in the pots once they got the bait. Second I tried thin wire mesh covered in like a hard black plastic that still didn't work they have mangled the mesh and stolen the bait and still no crabs in the pots. Also looking for ideas on how to keep them in the traps I have the 4 entry pots and trying to think of a way to close the entry points enough so they can still get in but not enough for them to get out.

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks

Here's a pic of some I caught last time I was out.

  3. Just a quick update guys the neighbour next door to the one that complained spoke to me about council contacting him regarding the noise and excessive smoke from my boat motor and he told council exactly as I have been saying that I don't start it weekly and that the last time he remembered me starting it was months ago and that the smoke has never been an issue to him. But the most interesting part he told me is that he has had nothing but problems with him as well complaining to council about his boat and other problems and that also he has complained to council about the neighbour behind him so it looks like it's not just me this guy is just a serial pest to everyone

  4. The fumes can collect poorly ventillated spaces. I move my second boat away from the house as much as I can and close my front door and windows when flushing. Otherwise the fumes will accumilate

under the car port and end up indoors. Perhaps try flushing it out in the street, that might be far away enough?

that's the thing though I start it on my front lawn next to the road which is atleast 20 metres from his house and it only runs smokey for a short time once it's clear it puts out the same amount of exhaust fumes as my mower
  5. Yep friends keeps getting complaints from neighbours about storing boxs in his own garage made me laught and council guy laugh but you should receive a letter from council prob wanting to inspect otherwise and they'll close the case quite quickly that's Hornsby council I'll call them as well and find. Out regulations

I went on the council website regarding noise pollution and there's nothing there regarding boats so I'm unsure what it would be classified as but during 7am-8pm Monday to Friday there's no noise restrictions so I don't think I should have an issue
  6. Sometimes electrical interference from the motor can interfere with TV reception, though i take that wasn't mentioned.

not a single word about it the only complaint was the noise and the smoke that comes out of it on initial start up and the only reason it is really smokey is because I don't start it regularly when it is started regularly it's really good and you barely notice the smoke coming out
  7. I just don't see what the issue is I could really understand if I was starting my boat at rediculous hours or even starting it every weekend but once every month or more shouldn't be such a concern to warrant calling the EPA and the council and it's not like I'm the only one in the street that owns a boat there's at least 5 with in 200 metres of my neighbours house

  8. Shouldn't be a problem then. Sounds like your neighbour is just being a Richard Cranium.

I'm surprised the council has re acted so promptly since you only started the motor today. Normally the Council Compliance Dept takes a couple of weeks to react to any complaint and even then they normally issue a letter of advice of the complaint in writing before they take any action.

Or has your neighbour simply told you that he has lodged a complaint with the council?

he told me he has lodged a complaint and then I had a phone call on my house phone from the council but could of been someone that wasn't the council ringing not sure if that's what they would usually do
  9. I only ever start it during the middle of the day or before 6pm and this is the first time I've started the boat since February 7th the date of my last fishing trip and before that was for the New Years weekend so I don't start it every week and I don't start it early morning or at night and today I started my motor at 11am to test it before I take it out tomorrow and make sure it runs only ran it for less than 10 -15 mins if that

  10. I've been trying to catch some more muddies on the hawkesbury. I caught one first go, but since then had have nothing but failure! Do you put the traps in amongst the mangroves right at the tree lines or out in the channel?

Exactly how bessell said a couple of metres from the mangroves and I like putting them near the mouths of little rivers or tributaries as bessell said some days you get none and some days you can get lucky and get heaps

But one other thing use fresh mullet as bait in your traps it's dynamite on muddies

    Good luck

  11. Hi guys,

Went out crabbing not long ago chasing muddies up at Spencer in the Hawkesbury we set out late afternoon with crabs pots already loaded with fresh mullet that I injected with Tuna oil on the first lift of the pots we picked up 2 very nice muddies and also a dirty big eel which was very difficult to deal with on the boat In the dark. While we were waiting for the the next pick up of the traps we had a few lines out and scored some nice bream a just legal flathead and a few small rays after 3 more hours pick up the pots again and picked up another 4 muddies and this time a massive mullet was caught in the trap that a mud crab was trying to chew on anyway set the pots back out again for one more go and picked up 3 more muddies and then decided to call it a night.

All in all it was a great night on the water

  12. Just a quick question regarding baits that people use in there traps has anyone ever tried soaking them in fish oil or injecting them with fish oil to make them give off more smell if so did it work???

  13. Found the problem!!!!! Stripped the top cover off cleaned the gasket off found sand and pieces off and old water pump took the leg off and attached the hose and flushed it with the hose on the water pipe and rubber pieces and sand came out hopefully that's problem solved time will tell I guess from now on I'm only going to take it to reputable marine mechanics what a waste of money.......
