  2. Nice green eyed monster there bustoff.

Did you end up using him for bait or was he for the table?

Those Pilchards would of been handy. There was a gutter that run from the beach out to sea towards the breakwall last Friday but don't know if its still there.

    Hey Mate,

Using him for bait put it in a freezer bag chucked it in the freezer probably use it when i go back down there next i was gonna head back down to wollongong and have another bash today but its too bloody windy

  4. Its apparently illegal to use opera house traps up and down the south coast because they reckon platypus get caught in the traps But you can use them in rural NSW but they have to be fitted with a 90mm metal ring but i found the best traps to use the days are those crab drop nets and atleast using these you wont get fined

  5. "Gathering bait

it is a cheap way of fishing when the bait you use is freely available along most rock platforms and ocean rock pools. It is also found in estuary systems and rivers but harder to find. There are 2 main types of weed, string/ribbon type and cabbage.string weed is most common in the river estuary systems but some ocean rock pools also have it. Cabbage type is easier to come by and is everywhere along the coastal rocks and beach headlands. When you harvest your weed be responsible and take only whats needed and if there is enough get some for burly..the weed generally dies off a lot through the colder winter months. It is best not to squeeze the water out but let excess water drain but if in a hurry a gentle squeeze is ok.lay weed in newspaperor hessian bag and fold / roll up and put in bag.you can keep it in bottom of the fridge for up to a week but fresh is always best."

    Hey,

  8. Hey all just bought myself a new Daiwa sea jigger beach rod today and i really cant believe how light they are cant wait to test it out this friday down at the beach great looking rod has anybody else got one if so what do you think of them???

    Cheers

  9. Mate go and get yourself one of those Silstar Muscle Tip 10' rods in 2-4 or 3-5kg

match it with a nice Daiwa, Shimano or Penn in 3000 or 4000 series loaded with some 12 or 15lb braid you got a tight little outfit.

You will definitely get some change from $300- if you shop smart.

You can use the change on terminal tackle then to match the lighter option but has eneough grunt to pull the stumps on bigger predators when you want to.

PS- I have recently bought some new Shakespear Reels (cannot remember exact model) in 2000 and 3000 models and I use the 3000 with a 11' home made cane rod that really should be a blackie stick and it ROCKS!!!! Spooled with 10lb braid and 12lb mono shock leader it casts really well with little weight yet its flexy eneough to flick out SP's on 1/16ox jig heads and give them some real "action".

    Just my $0.02 worth.

I was kinda looking at the daiwa sea jigger range the 10'3 rod but was having trouble trying to match up a reel to keep me under the 300 dollar mark and thanks didnt even think about looking at a silstar rod

  10. Hi Guys,

As the title says im after a beach combo for under 300 all my beach rods are over 12ft and im after something a little smaller to catch some bream and whiting maybe the occasional sambo if it comes along can anyone suggest a good rod and reel i dont mind stretching the budget a little over 300 but not much

    cheers

  14. Went up to windamere dam for the weekend camping with the girlfriend camped at a place called cudgegong waters great campsite and very friendly people would recommend it to anyone anyway headed out early friday morning walked for a few hours trying a few spots with spinnerbaits, stump jumpers and jackals with no luck so decided to switch over to bait fishing with some yabbies first cast in and im on had a brief struggle and the fish darted in to the snags and PING so rigged back up put another live yabby out no bites for ages so threw a handful of worms out and put my other rod out with another yabby on it again no bites for atleast an hour so decided to pack up and start the long walk back to the campsite as i was bringing my last rod in got a massive hit and the drag started singing i tried to keep this one from going in to the snags but no luck within seconds again PING so after that called it a day packed up and as i was about to start walking back one of the other campers not to far from me come past in his boat and asked if i wanted a lift what a god send saved me atleast an hour and a half long treck back to the campsite talked to the guy asked if he had any luck he said there were a ton of the fish on the sounder down deep but he couldnt get them to bite he asked how i did told him i had two bust offs and he asked what was i fishing with i said 10lb braid and he just laughed and said i shouldnt have bothered i should atleast bring 30lb next time anyways next time i head up there ive got a bit more knowledge to take some heavier gear up for these big yellas
