  1. Bustoff . As Day's Fishin say's ,

How does the motor warm up to operating temperature with water pumping straight through? I had problems a number of years ago with a Mariner overheating when trolling and it was the thermostat's. There was 2 in my motor?

There is something in the motor sensing the heat & causing it to " kick back into nutral if over 15 knots" .

Normally this is connected to the thermostat.

    Geoff

Could be a temp sensor in the power head that does that Theres definitely no thermostat in it

  2. Strange they don't have a thermostat! How does the motor warm up to operating temperature with water pumping straight through? I had problems a number of years ago with a Mariner overheating when trolling and it was the thermostat's. There was 2 in my motor? I am running a Mariner on my tinny now and I think their a great motor.

    Regards Jeff

Not too sure but it definitely doesn't have A thermostat Checked and double checked the manual to make sure

  3. since u spent $1000 on getting the exhaust gaskets replaced im thinking the mechanic removed the power head and inspected the exhaust and water pump pipe i think your problem might be your water pump impeller have u removed this? it could be the wrong type it could even be worn and slipping on the shaft

Yeah have changed the key way impellar and the water pump housing and all the gaskets on the pump and still have the issue

  4. Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had this issue before I've had issues with the water pump have changed the housing impeller cleaned the pipe thats comes out of the water pump have had a marine mechanic look at it and spent over a grand changing side plate gaskets and checking water pipes with still no fix the boat starts and pumps water out fine when I rev the motor with no load its fine water pumps out and it's Luke warm once on the water idling water pumps out fine as soon as the speed gets over 6 knots the motor gets hot and the motor kicks back into neutral if the speed is over 15 knots steam comes out of the engine and It kicks back into neutral I am thinking possibly a blockage in the head but other than that no idea

  5. Hey guys just wondering how I select the correct prop for my motor I have a 93 mercury magnum 40hp the prop got a little bashed up on my last outing and I want to replace it and is there a lot of difference between a 4 or 3 blade?

  6. got him, by the look of him a little rainbow. very structure orientated they are? flows and deviations of current, not too long before you work out a pattern.

Yeah mate nice little rainbow was amazing to sit there and watch it feed for about ten minutes and he was beautifully colored you could see the bright red flanks and black spots unfortunately this stream you aren't allowed to fish at all so I was happy enough to spot a few when I was on my walk

  7. We were down there on Sunday and fished between the tide change after about 12:30 everything seemed to go off the bite did you catch alot of barracouta when you were there on Saturday? Every Second drop I seemed to be catching one

  8. I think you're just showing off now Bustoff! Two trips in a row! :074:

Two great snapper with decent bumps on their heads too! Great work!

No wonder you'll be sticking to the sps.

Did you lose much gear to the 'coutas this time? And how was the current? It was moving very fast when I was down there last Thursday.

    Cheers

    Peter

Yeah lost well over a packet or two of squidgies and a few jig heads but im not complaining was pretty wrapped with the snapper current wasnt too bad this week last week was pretty hard even with the sea anchor out we were still drifting pretty quickly and i needed ounce jig heads to get to the bottom the only thing i can complain about is that i need to invest in braid i was using 6kg mono and 10kg flouro carbon leader and with all the stretch i missed a tonne of hits

  9. After last week catching a nice snapper my brother my dad and me decided to hit up the humps again turned out to be a great day for me not so much for my brother & dad I decided after last week picking up the biggest snapper on a sp I would only fish with plastics all day picked up two monster reds both 63cm a bonito and countless stinking barracoutta and my brother and dad could only manage barracoutta and one undersize snapper on bait must say I'm now a convert to sp's after outfishing my dad & brother 2 weeks in a row

    Cheers Bustoff

  11. I have 92 40hp mercury magnum started it up the other day after about 6 weeks I noticed after a few minutes the water coming out of the outlet was steaming and I couldn't hold my hand under there also noticed it wasn't coming out in a steady stream my guess is the impeller is probably stuffed is it an easy fix or should I take it to a mechanic?

  12. 13. Hello Raiders,

I am heading to Eucumbene for a couple of days next week and would apprecaite any tips.

We will have a boat + down rigger as well as fly gear for walking the banks.

Any tips or advice in terms of lure or fly patterns would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Moro Mou

    Hey mate,

was there about 2 weeks ago for 5 days we trolled early morning and afternoon without downriggers and did fairly well best lures by far were rapala F5 and J5's and yellow wing tassie's if your camping by the water overnight dont be afraid to do some bait fishing with worms or grubs seen and heard plenty of people doing well of a night time by the bank

    best of luck
