  1. Welldone Mike, nice to see you having seccess again. Sounds like a top session. Well, I am still yet to land a jewie myself.... might give it a go sometime after this month. Your family must enjoyed a feed of fresh jewie steaks. Cheers Louis
  2. Mate, that’s an absolute beast!!! Great catch, I can imagine the power of that thing. What gear did you use for that?. Congratulations, excellent catch, definitely in the run of Fish of the month! Cheers Louis
  3. Well done mate, groper fishing is always fast and furious. And there are so many of them at every headland. They are easy to hook up as long as you using the right bait, but landing one is tricky. I landed a 8kg specimen last year around the same time of the year, when you do hook them up, just wind in as quick as you can, dunt worry about the knots, dunt worry about the snags, just wind it in before it realize its hooked, I think that’s the only way to land one of those power machine. Better luck next time, its always good to learn from experience. cheers Louis

    Fish Id

Thanks for the info guys. It is a rare catch. I thought they only live in very deep sea where there’s no light at all. Because looks like it has no eyes. I also got a massive grinner as well on live yakka. That thing went all most 60cm. Looks like you can catch everything on those poor yakkas.

    Fish Id

Guys, caught this thing last Friday while live baiting for John Dory in port jackson. This fish looks like made for walking (on the sea floor). Any suggestion for the ID? BTW, this thing was only winning the live bait yakka by 2cms, but he swallowed it.
  6. Yeah, I suppose it’s a one lost kingie!! But anyhow just to show how good the kingie fishing is this season after a few years battle with the commercial traps. Keep it coming next year!!! Louis
  7. Hi, fellow raiders: I am posting this report on behalf of my neighbor. I was so surprised when he told me the story!! He fished Iron Cove on Tuesday, 12th June for his usual bream and flathead. And within half an hour of fishing, he scored this healthy kingfish went 64cm on a tiny piece of bread on a size 1 bream hook and 8lb line!!!!! It took him 20minuts to land this king from the shore!!! He didn’t know what fish was it as he never caught any kings or even targeted them! What a surprising catch, a winter kingie from Iron Cove! I still couldn’t quite believe it. But it proved once again, nothing is impossible in fishing! here is the pic: a happy old bloke with his first king Cheers Louis

    Blackfish

I am a blackfish beginner as well, had very limited success. I use cabbage weed exclusively just because i cant get any hairtail weed. Fished yje harbour on monday and wednesday, burley hard but couldn't get a bite. Did this murky water turn them off? or the fish in the esturies prefer hairtail weed? Can the blackie experts give me a bit of advice on that? LOUIS
  9. Cabbage weed mate. However, i remember someone said to me before the stringy weed works better in the Harbour, the cabbage weed works off the rocks, duno if thats ture.
  10. Well done Mike, can’t believe the kingies are still around at this time of year!! Maybe I have switched myself to other species too early! The two kingies looks beautiful, sure your family will enjoy the Sashimi. Louis
  11. Fished Saturday avo on a running in tide at Balmain. I have been trying for the blackies in the harbour for the last few weeks, finally got a bit success today, had 3 hook ups, but the other 2 was just too big to land on 6lb line. However, the bite wasn’t very hot, I suppose blackies are schooling fish, and I have seen ppl catching a bag limit of blackies easily. So here is my question, how to turn a one catch into a bag limit? I have been burlying consistently using cabbage weed. Here is a photo of the blackie that I landed. Also caught two squids on the day. I’ve also caught this one on cabbage weed, the head looks like a luderick, but its much narrower, and certainly dunt have the strips on the body. Anyone suggests a ID for this fish? Cheers Louis
  12. I was fishing near the Galesville bridge. There were too many tailors which made fishing very difficult. Anyway, that bream went really hard, I got the fun out of it.
  13. Fished Sydney Harbour last night on a run in tide. Weather was great, caught 8 legal breams, and dropped a school Jew under my feet when I was trying to lift it up from the water. So I learned this in a hard way: Bring a landing net when fishing!!! Anyway, kept 3 breams for a feed, including a monster went 42cm and nearly 1.5kg! It was extremely fat, perhaps now they are storing up the energy and fat and ready for the coming winter. Here are the pics to follow: Cheers Louis

    Football

I think for the Man U supporters, we will likely to have Nevil and Ferdinand back when we go to San Siro. A win or draw will make us through; however, it doesn’t seem that easy if Ronaldo back for Milan. By the way, I was so pissed by West Brown’s performance, when KaKa scored the goals, he didn’t even appear anywhere near the ball!! Go Man U, Go Rooney!!
  15. Brett: Thanks for the help. I havn't tried fish for them in the day, i mostly fish for them at night or dusk , tried a lot of likely jewie spot in the harbour. I think I will give it a go next time during the day coz I almost fish for them exclusively on a high tide at night. And for some reasons, I always fish the week before or after the full moon. (maybe that’s why I still haven’t got one). I think there is another DVD called the “Jewie secret” I will try to get my hand on one. Will the Jews go off as the water temperature is dropping now? Cheers Louis
  16. Go the reds!! Who's KaKa!! ?

    Football

Is anyone watching the game now? The Man U 4 defenders were like dreaming this morning, as least for the first half play. but anyway, Go the reds, go C. Ronaldo!!!
  18. During the last few years, I have spent a lot of nights chasing estuary Jews (landbased). However I have only landed one specimen being far from legal. (he went 34cm). Got a lot of information from other jew fishoes before, some said the turn at the low tide is the most productive time, some said the turn of the high tide. Was wondering which one is correct? Or it’s depending on the actual spot really. If the moon phrase really does matter? I have used all the Baits out there I can get as fresh as possible ( squids, tailors, mullets, etc), still haven’t produced any result. I am really keen to land my first legal estuary jew!! Any help will be appreciated Louis
  19. Winter is also good time for catching big big squid from the rocks...... and landbased shark fishing for me, i enjoyed it last year!
  20. Thanks for the relies guys, i went down the same spot there again today, saw a shcool of 4-5 kingies cruising along the shore for a few times!! but they wouldn't take what i threw at them, guess i cleaned up my luck on friday.
  21. I fished Sydney Harbour on friday avo. Started with the usual squiding, using some jigs I brought back from Maldives, surprisingly they worked pretty well in Sydney Harbour. Caught 6 good size squids in 2 hours, then just before the sun set, I throwed in one of the smaller squids as a livie. Waited about 3 minutes, the rod bend down, I was onto a good fish. About 10 minutes later, I landed this 70cm kingie. This is my first king in Sydney Harbour, so I was pretty happy. Then another fresh squid strips out, I caught another two nice snappers. But everything went quiet just after the sun set, except I started to lose my rigs to those choppers. Took the kingie home, and made up some beautiful fish stakes. Nth can beat the taste of grilled kingie stake and some fresh squid sashimi. Cheers Louis here is another pic of the Dinner!!
  22. Thanks for the replies guys. Mate, i didn't get a measurement on him, only estimate around 1.5kg? PS. Paul, nice to hear from you. We will have to go out for a fish some time soon. Call me if you are keen. I got heaps of time off at the moment. PS. Jin, thanks mate, we will keep in touch. Have fun at gold coast.
  23. Sorry about the late of the report, finally got a chance to post some of my captures during this month. I went holiday overseas for 3 month, when i got bk, i cant wait to wet a line. March for me is pretty productive this year, not in terms of the numbers, but the quality of the fish. Here are some captures which i thought were quite uncommon inside the harbour, and caught from landbased. The second one was caught at CG which i thought was an estury cod. It was released after a few photoes. Cheers Louis
  24. Well done mate, thats really a lot of effort. By the way, the place looks like IC to me. Congratulations on the catch and release again! Louis
  25. Gee... that's a good harbour king!! Well done mate.
