  1. I mostly launch from Roseville or tunks park, the side road going out from Roseville on to Waringah road is quite steep which worries me a bit......And sounds like braked trailer is the go, are they much more expensive than the non-braked ones?
  2. Hi mate, is your i30 diesel or petrol? I suppose these 2 cars are similar in power and touque. And yeah I'm looking at a boat around that size too.
  3. Thanks guys, in fact I'm most concerning about the vehicle on the ramp cause its a fairly small car compare to the other towing vehicles and its front wheel drive only, would it do fine with a say 500kg boat on the ramp?
  4. Hi I was hoping to get some advice from all the experience boaties here: I am considering purchasing a small aluminimum tinnie (4.6m) with a 30hp 4 stroke or a e-tec, and I have a Holden Cruz 2.0 Diesel which it does have a towing capacity of 695kg.....Will that be sufficient to tow the type of tinnie that Im after? The weight of the tinnie plus trailer should fit within the towing capacity, but then should I also consider the weight of the car? Does anyone have any experience towing a boat with a small car? Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks Louis
  5. Awesome red mate! welldone! Proves the point again, wild weather brings the big fish into the harbour, but in MH where you normally fish, that's definatly a 1/10yrs catch. Congrats Louis
  6. Hi all, fished middle harbour on Monday with Zenman (Michael)on his new quntrix boat. We had 6.30 start from Roseville and found there were already plenty of people at the ramp waiting to launch (Dunt people have to work these days?) Anyway, we went straight to Michael's favouriate kingie spot, within half an hour, we had millians of yakkas in the burley trial....then Michael's pillie got hit first, up comes a rat at around 60cm after a short fight. Back to fight another day he went. Then things got quiet for a while until a school of rat kings showed up in the burley. They were all around the 60-65cm mark, and they just refused all our offerings from pillie to fresh squid to live yakkas.... I decided to pull out the light 2kg gear, floated a pillie cube in there, it got smashed straight away, then my leader knot gave up, re-rig!!! And what a time to re-rig, after i turned back the kingies were disappeared in the depth and never came bk. we decided to give the kingie spot a rest and go for a troll just inside the heads with some squid skirts and repalas, things were pretty quiet, no sign of bonnies....then we came bk around the spit, had a bunch of pinkies smashing our bait, its time that we decide to go back to the wreck for another look. Once we arrived, the sounder was black with bait everywhere, Flyfishing guide Justin Johns was on the ground with his client landed some beautiful 80cm+ specimen on fly. We anchored up, drop down some fresh squid and yakka fillets. My rod got smashed first by a good fish, he took me twice into the wreck and i pulled him out, and one last run had my 20lb leader poped. Anyway, I had a few more hook up after that but only landed another undersized specieman around 60sm. Michael landed one nice pinkie around 38cm and a big fat kg+ bream. Then things got very quiet untill another school of nice kings showed up at the back of the boat but again refused our offerings. We soon called it a day and raced back to the ramp, off the water by 4.30. All up it was a good day out, weather was perfect, and thanks for making it happen Michael, shame we didn't land a few solid kings, maybe next time. (Excuse the ciggie, can't help myself) Cheers Louis
  7. Sounds like a bloody good session mate! Gonna have to go out with you once to turn my reel, havn't caught any decent fish this season, shocking......
  8. Hi guys It was beautiful weather today so decided to have a relax fishing session on my own. collected some cabbage weed only enough for bait not burley off I went down to a local spot near balmain. It was very slow going the entire avo, didnt get a single down. As the tide picked up, water level rises and dusk approaching, I thought I would put a bit of bread on my blackfish gear to see if i can bag a bream or two while starts to pack up. Half an hr later, everything was well packed up and it was already dark so i went to wind bk the float. Then there were weight down there, lifted up, the thing just went nuts and headed straight to the kelp. The fight felt awesome on 4lb leader, and i didn't know what it was, thought might be a decent bream. then when it came up on my surface my jaw just droped absolutly on the ground, its a blackie and a huge one. after another tough fight near the shore i had it secured in the landing net. Waht a monster blackfish. It went 45cm a new PB for me. Cheers Happy fishing
  9. Bad luck Mike. We r not doing any better neither. Fished 14 hours on the harbour last sat with live squids only managed one 30cm samson fish. A mate fished iron cove with 2' grubs landed a 64cm kingie while targeting bream, weird.......
  10. It was a good day out, sunny day, few beers, good company, and a nice fish too. I reckon there's one out there in that hole with my name on it next time
  11. We caught a lot of those slimie and hering cross fish in MH lat week, confirmed they are actually pillies!! Picked up a school size jewie at the Hawkesbury using a filet from those guys, sensational bait! Louis
  12. Got them at middle head, where there are weed grown on the rocks. Its a quite popular luderick spot, just look for the chopped weed left on the rocks, thats a good indicator there are blackfish around. Louis Mike: I heared the water temp. dropped down to 17, guess all the plagics have gone off. But i bagged couple of nice trev and bream near the spit last time. But the species off the rocks seem bite much better in the cold water.
  13. I think there are lots of big jewies in the harbour but they are not consistent. Personally i think the best tide to try for the harbour is the run in from the bottom of the tide until 2 hours before the high, with preferable the week leading to the full moon. I think you should try the Hawkesbury if you wana get your first jewie as they are more consistent up there, and fillet baits and fresh squids outfishes livies. Jewie fishing can be quite hard, i spend 4 years chasing them with countless overnight trips but come back with nothing, but it pays to put that time in and you will get your first one soon or later!! Cheers Louis
  14. Fished Hawkesbury landbased last night on the change of tide. Got a lot of hits on the fresh squid strips before the tide starts to run out, caught this little 65cm soapie. Then everything just went quiet except a few Hawkes breams but no more jewies.
  15. Went out target blackfish in the harbour, and they were on!!!
  16. Saw u guys at sow and pig there landing fish after fish, we thought u guys were using fresh squids. we were around the markers too, but our livie didn't get touched.
  17. Hey Mike: Good to see you get into the fish again. there were lots of those little samsons at balmoral in the last few weeks, we've been getting them on soft plastics, but the yakka there can be hard to catch sometimes. Me and my mate fished the main harbour for 18 hours non stop friday mid night to saturday avo for zilch~! tried all spots in the harbour, only saw a bit of action at sow and pigs, but our live yakka and garfish didn't even got touched. I guess they are all taking squids at the moment. Cheers Louis
  18. The rain was bad mate, we were one second away from packing up and go home, lucky one other block at the ramp rang up the coastguards and confirmed there is no rain in the avo. Our boat is a 4.2 center console that has no cover at all, would be painful if we were out there in that storm.
  19. It’s been a long time since my last report. I had some fantastic landbased fishing this year, caught a range of different species and managed few PBs. Anyway, the weather forecast looked not too bad for the easter Monday, therefore, one of my mate offered me to go on his boat to fish the harbour as he normally fishes the bay. We planned to hit the water nice any early and try to manage a few squids, however, we ended up being caught at the ramp as the rain was pissing down. As we waited and waited, we finally saw some blue sky and we were on the water at 9.30am. (Ps. We were at the ramp since 4am. ) Managed a few yakkas in half an hour, then we headed straight to the spot. Livies set, the waiting game starts. One hour later, my 30lb braid outfit starts to scream, grabbed the gear, and the fish was already in the reef. Lucky I had a 2 meter 30lb shock leader and I managed to pull it out, and landed a nice 70cm kingie. The next minute, my surface bait got smashed by a little hammerhead, which put up a great fight on the 10lb gear, she’s released to fight another day. After that, I managed a strange looking specimen on a 3 inch bass minnow and everything just went very quiet. The last spot is sow and pig, we drifted some surface livie and surprisingly landed this beautiful 85cm flattie. Unfortunately, she swallowed the entire double hook rig, and not in a good condition for a release, therefore, she was iced down for the table. We trolled a few lures back to the ramp and managed a few legal size tailors. Got very tired back home and a 14hour long sleep, and got a call from another mat who wants to head down to the rock to spin for salmon. Looked at the weather, already showed the sign of a storm, but the condition were perfect for a spin session off the rocks. Packed my gear, we were on the rock ledge within half an hour. We spun crazy for hour and a half, caught 8 nice fish, kept 4 for jewie bait and give away to neighbors. We worked hard to manage a few catches during the easter weekend, but its just fantastic to be out there on the water.
  20. Haha, serious? I'll have to grab a copy to check out. Thanks for letting me know.
  21. Thanks for all the replys guys, sorry to be secret about the spot, I've had that experience before, the next time i go to the spot X, its full of rubbish. All I can say is that place is somewhere near the heads, the bigger fish are definitly out there near the entrance of the harbour as I've also caught a decent jewie there couple of weeks ago. But I guess to put in a bit of effort and find out your own spotX is part of the fishing fun . Cheers Louis
  22. The bigger one went over 4kg and 69cm long, didn't measure the smaller one. choad: Good guess, but it wasn't the wedding cake, coz we fished landbased. Cheers
  23. Went fishing with a mate in sydney harbour yestorday, picked up two quality reds on the running in tide. One caught on live yakka another caught on fresh squid. Both went for a decent run which made me called for a kingie. Nonetheless we didn't manage to get any kings as we were hoping for, the quality flesh from the snappers still gave us a nice feed. Since its my mate's spotX, I had to cover the backgrounds in the photo. But the reds are definitly out there in the Harbour. Cheers Louis
  24. Well done Mike, the 'hole' produces again. Did you give him a measure? BTW, merry Xmas and happy new year to you and your family mate! Louis
  25. Thanks for taking me out on the water again Mike. We had to work hard for the fish, but finally we got what we want. A nice day on the water and a feed of fresh kingie, nth beats that!! Cheers Louis
