  1. They sure do. They really smack the lure hard. I reckon they smash it like they would a bait fish to startle it. That one in your avatar fell to a HB in the Georges if my memory serves me right, wouldn't mind one about that size.
  2. Thanks. This time of year I've caught them as far down as Wobby shoreline. They are thick right now.
  3. This little fella thought he'd join in with the EP and stop for a snack. Took me off guard and nearly ripped my rod out of my hand, fell to Strike Pro Pygmy in a Black and Gold colour. Too much fun on 6lb gear. It was caught around the turn of the low tide about lunch time. Heaps of Bream and EP today on MF40's, Blades and small Hardbody's and a small Blackfish on a Power Grub in the old dark Pumkinseed colour. Jew cutlets are fantastic. Mick
  4. I do have a new Cod outfit, that has 30lb braid on a Twinpower 5000 with a rod to match, and I reckon I'll stop a monster Jew with it. It does flick around an ounce quite nicely and is tops for trawling large HB's. If you're gonna soak baits in the middle of the channel (as I grew up doing) when the tides are big you're gonna need some good lead. These days most of the time I'm fishing a strong eddy, so usually I can keep the weight down and blades sink pretty fast too, so I'm stickin to the light gear. Mick
  5. I welcome that smell anytime on my boat. Mick
  6. It felt like every third cast I had a Bream on, many tiddlers but some comp worthy. Some people hate the system, and yes I find it hard work sometimes but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve there. I do like the fact you don't have the clarity like you do in MH, so it's great for Bream, Flathead and Jew! Thanks mate.... boy that's a cracker Bream in your avatar. Looks 40cm plus.
  7. Thanks mate.... this thing had some legs, not only did he shoot off for a 40 metre run, he stayed down deep and really hugged the bottom. For a while I didn't think I'd be able to bring him up, luckily the leader was positioned in one of the softest parts of it's mouth, 2 miss netting attempts later he was in the boat. Felt great landing him, made my birthday!
  8. Off the rocks to the right of the beach we use to get good kings and I once got a school Jew there. My mate lost a 70cm plus snapper right near the edge. Hell of a walk from where you park your car but worth it. Watch for brown snakes in summer. Mick
  9. Thanks everyone for the thumbs up and the birthday wishes. Jew cutlets tasted great, fed everyone with plenty handed out to extended family. I'll never overlook the dead low in the shallows again. Cheers.
  10. Hello all, Had plans today to get up first thing and hit the Hawkesbury in search of big winter bream. Wasn't off to a good start, oversleeping and missing the alarm, fortunately the misses saved the day and woke me and I was on my way. I was on the water about 8ish and the weather was great, no wind and not a cloud in sight, there really is something very special about a weekday solo session on the Hawkesbury. Long story short, a hot to trot 78cm (3.5kg) jew took off with my 2 inch minnow. With 6lb line and 5lb leader with a 1-3kg rod, a leccy chase was in order, fortunately it took off straight for the channel. Until getting colour, I had no idea what I had hooked, I was thinking 50cm + EP or energetic flathead. I hooked up in about 3-4 foot of water. Plenty of Bream around today, nothing huge but heaps around the 30cm mark.
  11. Top catch on 15lb, especially LB. Last summer I was dusted on more than I landed and I was using 30lb.
  12. We used to have a lot of fun on small Jews, thumper Bream and the odd EP around the entrance of Joe Craft Creek. Berowra Creek is one of my favourite spots, I'm gonna hit it soon.
  13. Amazing getting that in MH, I've really gotta get there more often. Top catch mate!
  14. So true, that's why I mix it up with a trawl.
  15. I went through a stage of lures only but now I grab some bread and or/pillies for the gars/herring/yakka. Once I got my livies I anchor up for a jew, and once the suns up its lures and the electric for the rest of the day. Also goin through an old school flatty trawling stage right now, experimenting with cod lures (AC invaders, plows and stuff) Mick
  16. I've had a few in my time, and now have got an entry level Furuno LS4100 (I think), works very well for the $500 it cost me. Mick
  17. I've seen you on the Georges b4, near the board walk next to Lambeth, I've got the same boat as you with a 40 yammie on the back... they're a great rig mate.
  18. I'll show ya what I know. 2am Saturday night on MH, you up for it
  19. I feel ya pain, a few days after witnessing Dan and Greg's efforts to entice them, I gave it a shot with cubed Gars, they took every cube except the one with the hook. They can see the hook or the FC leader or just aren't happy with the unnatural buoyancy of even an unweighted cube. A 63cm rat did take a 2inch powerbait grub with 1/32 jighead with 4lb and no leader (don't bother asking why my mate didn't put a leader or why he was even flicken around in 50 feet of water with my bream stick) Go you Roosters!
  20. That was me, that umbrella sure does beat having a bimini on a bass boat. Those kings were hard work, surprised they didn't hit a unweighted cube. I'll see if I can twist their arms on Wednesday. Nice to meet you too.
  21. We were fishing next to you, we were in my blue v nose punt the doin circles around your cube trail. Those kings wouldn't touch our yakka but a 63cm rat grabbed my mates bream gear with a 2 inch powerbait grub, crazy on light gear, I reckon that there has gotta be some jews holding up there from time to time. We pulled the hooks on a decent king at middle head on sun up. Not too much going on for us in middle harbour that day. Gonna hit it again Wednesday for a weekday bash.
  22. I think so, don't know too much about squid, defiantly not a cali. It was indeed, never seen anything like it before.
