  1. A lot of people do eat fish caught in the system but I wouldn't. IMO the saltier the water the better. I take it as an opportunity to catch and release, each to their own. Mick
  2. Very well done mate. Landbased... lures... light gear... at night....... Respect! Love the ye olde jig heads. Mick.
  3. Thanks mate. Thanks for that Roberta. I had it in the fridge for about a week and then used it in the Hawkesbury and I did have my float go down once (didn't hook up), so they do eat it. Hobie yaks are great you'll have a ball with it, pedal yaks are handy but a paddle yak has it's advantage, like working the ultra shallow bass creeks without fear of bashing up your mirage drive.
  4. Good to see you get a few on those vibes. All it takes is one fish to get confident with a lure and you'll keep using it knowing that it'll come good eventually . Funny that you bought the whole range... that's exactly what I did That first bream was solid.... think it was a Black Bream (no yellow on the fins) great way to blood the yak. Mick
  5. IMO the only thing you need to manage is not getting bitten off, so aim for a rig that suits around 15lb leader. I've caught stacks on the bream gear and bring them to the boat with minimal fuss. Sometimes you get lucky and and your lure's hanging out the mouth of the fish.... but lets just say 5lb leader and flatties mouths don't mix. Mick
  6. Hey Pete, this weed doesn't have any smell and it's not slimey, is it any good? It's got a nice green colour and it come from tidal waters.
  7. Thanks mate, Tidal waters but more Fresh than Brackish I think, I had a small sip and it tasted fresh. I reckon now is the time to get 'em... in transit upstream. Mick
  8. Lovely day on the water today with little to no wind and blue skies. Good little Bass just over the 30cm mark on my light Bream gear, first for the new yak. Stumbled on some good looking string weed too, anyone want to share how to store it, fridge or freezer? Got a few good Bream today too in the shallows and a couple of small Bass just as I was leaving. Mullet were everywhere today, looks like summers going to be a cracker. Mick
  9. Two of the lure caught jews I've got have hit the lure in the upper part of the water column, one hit a SP like a Tailor right near the boat and an other was on a shallow diving hard body as a bream by catch. I reckon at night might be the go... slowly worked big mullet looking hard body near structure. Mick
  10. Looks very Perch like to me with that head.... I'd say it's an EP for sure. I was talking to someone yesterday about Hybrid EP/Bass and some people in the know are of the opinion that Hybrids are possible. Mick
  11. I agree with Slinky, Jaz mini spinners are great bass lures. You can try out a range on SP with them, I like using a Mister Twister style double curl tail (two kicking legs is my thinking) They're great for when the Sun comes out and the poppers stop working. A medium pace roll with some pauses should see you get smashed. Mick

    Saragosa

Just picked up my Saragosa 8000 today... aren't they good for the money? I'm not going to touch mine, except for Carbontex drag washer but even that I'm in no rush to do. Mick
  13. I've got mine up front under a hatch. Out of sight and works a treat. Mick
  14. Jew or Kingy cutlets with Lurpak butter, fresh Garlic, Parsley and lemon pepper wrapped in foil and baked mmmmmm. Flattie fillets skinned, crumbed then shallow fried. Gemmy fillets beer battered with tartar and a lemon wedge. Sashimi YFT, King, Atlantic Salmon or Flathead with Soy and Wasabi. Smoked Atlantic Salmon. They are my choices. Mick
  15. What a great idea! I missed Roberta's post on Thong lures. I too had a Thong Popper, made out of green and red thong material, I think it's called the "Thong Thing" or maybe that's just what my mate calls it. It caught me plenty of Bass but was lost a year ago or so. My mate got them given to him on a trip to Byron. Mick
  16. I've got a 2010 Outback with Turbo Fins and Sailing Rudder. Stability is excellent, Speed is fine but I haven't experienced a Revo so no basis of comparison. The thing that got me over the line with the Outback was the space and weight capacity. I really really love my Outback and I think you too will be happy with one. If you can afford it and can workout a good way to transport it, go the PA... i think it'll be very sea worthy. Mick
  17. Note to self: never pick a fight with smithy744. Mick
  18. It's just plain rude, I make every effort to give LB fishos a wide birth coming back to the ramp in Parsley Bay. I know how it is... I was LB years back. Mick
  19. Hope the grub gets locked away. Mick
  20. Was there the other day for a play with my new toy, downrigged a large paddletail shad for about two hours with not a touch. Couple guy that I spoke to there said it was quite for them too. Around the Spit Bridge the water wasn't murky at all. Wouldn't mind a heavy down poor, it would probably liven the place up a bit. Mick
  21. Great tips there mate. I'm gonna let the wire rust a bit first then change it with Braid or something, Took it for a test run the other day (with my new Shark Shield) around the spit and it worked very well, and could see the bomb line perfectly on the sounder, couldn't be happier. I've been contemplating what to do when a King hits me and dives for cover, I think you're right move forward and get that bomb up and then work the fish. Using the drag and winding with one hand was very natural surprisingly. My next mission is to buy some sheet Neoprene and make a kingy bag for keeping a feed. Mick
  22. Built this today for downrigging in the yak. Gonna experiment with different heads and may restrict the water flow if it appears to stress the livies. Got a confused look from the while floating it in the bath. Feedback welcome. Mick
  23. I've been thinking long and hard about a new reel and the Saragosa seems to be the one for me. I was thinking the 18000 but now think the 8000 will be perfect for what I'll be doing, at around $300 for the 8000 they're a steal and people love 'em. I'm gonna match it with a JM Powerspell. Mick
