  1. Hey Guys, Gave the twin power/fin-nor ahab combo a whirl today on a charter and i must admit that the combo exceeded my expectations. Today we pulled caught 40+ dollies with some throwbacks. The biggest one i caught went 103cm on the mat. I brought the cI4 combo aswell but to chicken shit to use it when we chased the dollies.. Just used it for Yakka catching.
  2. Yeah if my dog was still around, she'd be going crazy (German/Doberman).. She passed away on new years day when she ran away (cause of fireworks) and got hit by a car. But yeah, i have everything locked up now...i don't leave anything valuable in my car.
  3. DITTO to STYLO.. The two combo's seem very identical in terms of specification.. As STYLO mentioned, stick it out and save abit more and spend it on something you'll definitely value. IMO i'd get either a sustain 2500 or stradic cI4 with either a Pflueger Asaro (1-4) or Shimano Jewel (1-4kg) I've got the shimano jewel with the stradic c14.. i haven't tested it out yet, but it looks great STYLO: Can;t wait to give the 2 combo's a workout this weekend
  4. Cheers Tan, I've called my car insurance company and basically i can only claim 500 dollars worth.. but get this, there is also a $500 excess... I'll double check home and contents to see if its covered. Cheers
  5. Moments like these are priceless..Nothing like spending time with the kids and teaching them a thing or two about fishing
  6. Funny thing was, nothing was in sight, all the fishing gear was in my boot and the phone was in the centre console. I've learned my lesson the hard way though.
  7. Hi Guys, On Monday morning I woke up to some my car being broken into. The scum bags took - My wife's old iphone - DVD's - My new Stradic C14, Pfluger Trion rod - Shimano Seido 10000 - an old smelly t-shirt Being all depressed and annoyed , my wife gave me the ok to buy some new gear (cosidering the Stradic C14 was unused - in the box). Unfortunately she didn't say how much Yesterday after getting the fingerprints from the car I went around to a couple of fishing shops and bought some new gear - Shimano Twin power FC 6000 - Shimano Stradic c14 2500 - Finor Ahab 20-50lb Being the best wife in the world, she gave me the thumbs up to go on a fishing charter with a fellow raider (STYLO). Hopefully i'll be able to hook up a monster this saturday Well some scum tries selling you any of the stolen items (including the old smelly shirt ) please let me know. Cheers Mark
  8. Seen the same pic at a tackle shop in Kings Park (SYDNEY).. Nice Squid though
  9. I heard that if you want to go past the heads, you will need a couple of safety equipment like flares, epirb, bailing bucket etc or you might cop a fine from water police.
  10. When squidding, i use my Shimano Jewel (1-4kg) rod. The rod has enough give to secure hookups. Though i haven't landed any monster squids, most of my squidding is for bait around the wharfs or structures. I used to use my pfluger trion (2-4kg) but the Shimano i believe has better flexibility with the same amount of durability. I guess it really depends what type of squid you're really targeting and where Cheers Mark
  11. Unlucky mate. Well it really depends what you're fishing for? I usually have a sabiki rig ready to catch some yakka's for live bait then throw it out. When waiting i just keep stocking up for livies. If its really dark and you don't have a sibiki jig, best bet is to tie a glow stick, in replace of the sinker and let it sink slowly. When you see your glow stick moving erratically in the water, strike it and you'll definitely hook up. I can't be bothered rigging up sabiki rigs in the dark, to much bait to put on Might have to try Clifton out one of these days.
  12. Nights not bad, would prefer to head down there before sunrise but to lazy. All my hook / bust ups were at night usually from the occasional jew or Noah. All i can say is good luck getting a spot if you head down just after sunset.
  13. Hey Mate. They're designed for Paternoster rigs (so i've heard). Personally, i just use weighted ones.
  14. went there a couple of weeks ago, after christmas and i must admitt that fishing there is picking up. Though i didn't land anything massive, i got 2 decent runs that night. I arrived at around 4:00am to bag myself a spot at the end of the pier. Hooked up on a small reddie and upon reeling him up he got chomped by a rat kingy. Later on this bloke has a small run and hooks up on a nice salmon, funny thing was he was used a piece of bacon as bait As night fell i get a run on my bait runner. I striked it and after fighting for a while all goes dead. I noticed that the hook snapped off the swivel Anyways rigged up again and went to go catching livies. Caught a slimey and gave it to these two blokes. After about 1/2 hour he gets a massive hit and fights for a while however gets pinged. All and all we didn't land anything however there are some big pelagics out there and all the livies you can catch.
  15. Thats not bad for Clifton Gardens considering half the time you've got people tangling lines and cutting your line off (cause they couldn't be bothered untangling yours ) When you said RAT, i actually thought you caught that RAT that starts swimming in the water when you burley up with bread. But anyway a RAT KINGIE is still a good achievement LB especially on PRAWN..
  16. Thanks Slinky. How big were the snapper/kings you've hurled on this reel. would a 3-6kg line rating ROD be ok with this reel?
  17. Cheers Guys, Might just get the mrs to get me the FireBlood 4000. I got quoted a real good price for it so will probably get it Tomorrow or Saturday. As for the rod, i'm going for the 3-6kg Starlo Stix Pro. Has anyone got any feedback of the Fireblood?
  18. HI guys, With my wedding anniversary arriving this Sunday, the said go nuts in the tackle shop. At the moment, i'm looking for a 4000 series reel and a 4-8kg rod. So far these are my options ROD Shimano starlo stix pro 7'10 Pflueger Asaro 7'0 Shimano FireRaider Shimano Jewel Reel Pflueger President XT 4000 Pflueger Supreme MG 4000 Stradic 4000 Basically for a rod i've budgeted between 150-180 and 200-300 for a reel. Any suggestions would be great!! Cheers Mark
  19. Nice flatty there mate!! They're heaps fun on light gear. I went fishing with another fellow raider on Saturday and caught a flatty on a live yakka. The flatty measured up to be about 78cm. Pretty boring on heavy gear, I actually thought i got a pile of weeds. Awesome catch though
  20. Well Done Bangus JR. You may have to show other fellow raiders how to squid. You seem to be a CHAMP at it..!! Maybe see you and your old man at Greenwich again. Cheers Mark
  21. I'd go the Trion for "Value for Money", but if you've got the extra buck, go the asaro. i've got the Trion (2-4kg) which i use for flicking plastics, but haven't landed anything massive on it. i'm sure the 5-10kg will be able to take a beating.
  22. Yeah, Not to be bias. I have the Trion with a Shimano Symetre (Great reel for the price paid $160) paired with 10lb braid, and must admit its a great combo. I'd opt for a better reel though, maybe an Pfluger Supreme. Cheers Mark
  23. I reckon the PFluger Trion...
  24. I was the same before mate.... Having a 10-12foot rod gives you better clearance from the rock ledge. Depending where i go, sometimes it feels that a 12 foot rod isn't even big enough . I've gone through stages where i've gone through a 10, 11, 12 and my newest acquisition 13 foot rod for LB Rock/Wharf Fishing. Regardless where i go, i always bring my trusty 8 foot rod to catch the livies. So i usually take a minimum of 2 rods with me
