  1. Last time i went fishing Browns was in april and we landed 3 nice fin between 35 and 40kgs trolling. I would recommend using mono instead of braid for most applications out there ( except bottom bashing! ), if you have a double or more hookup mono wont bust off if it rubs against other mono but braid will shear through anything! We run moslty 24kg mono on Penn Internationals 50W and okuma gold 50W's but have a few TLD25's spooled with 15kg which are yet to catch anything decent. Money permitting just get a decent 50W reel matched with a good rollered rod and if you look after it you will get year out of it! My Okuma titus gold is matched to a shimano backbone elite rollered 24kg and its a good budget outfit that has handled everything so far! Its well worth the money invested. There would be nothing worse than hooking a nice fish on 15kg and getting spooled! Heart-breaking stuff! Good luck!
  2. I wonder if there are still any traps wider than the Fads? Last time i was out off the botany wide fad there were loads of trap bubbles just a bit wider out holding dollies. Worth a look if you are heading back out. Will PM ya if i have any success! Cheers
  3. Sick! Well done mate! What brand / model of popper rod were you using if you don't mind me asking? I'm in the market for one and just wanna get some feedback! Thanks
  4. I caught a 40kg Yellowfin a few weeks back and it had tiny little leatherjackets in its gut, about 3cm long! I like Yellowfin even more now that they eat leatherjackets!
  5. Bait and very good Bait only! If you already ate some how did it taste? Catching something is always better than nothing. Good to turn a reel hey? Cheers
  6. http://www.seasurface.com/ You gotta subscribe but its worth it!
  7. Yeah i'm keen for one too, get a thread going for orders!
  8. Hey Bender, good to see you got some mate. Alot of boats out there getting zip! Hope to see you on the water mate. Cheers
  9. Hey mate, very nice! It's a good feeling to get your first fin hey! We're headin out again next week so fingers crossed.
  10. It is a Halco laser pro 190 2metre with the hooks changed to singles. Ran it short cornerish, probably about 20 metres back? We hooked 3 on skirts too.
  11. I understand if people have engine troubles but to run out of fuel is a joke! So irresponsible! It's unfair on the guys who have to tow you in, its 1.5hrs in at 20knts so if you could tow them at 10knots would be a 3hr trip! We had to tow some guys in whose engine broke down just outside botany heads when we were coming in which is fair enough. I'm always happy to help people out but fill your tanks and always take a bit extra! Anyone heading out good luck, tight lines.
  12. Oh yeah too, GO THE BUNNIES!
  13. Both! I think they were that ravenous they will take just about anything! What time were you guys out? We hooked up about 3.30pm.
  14. As Mike from Reef Magic said head dead east about 5nm from Browns. There were loads of garfish jumpin out the way so mabye mirror a couple in your spread. You won't find me out there on a weekend, too many weekend warriors with no idea of what they are doing and no idea of courtesy!
  15. Hey Raiders, left botany yesterday around lunchtime. Headed out wide looking for YFT and we found some alright. Quadruple hookup, utter chaos. Dropped one but landed the other 3. 2 about 35kg and one at about 40kg. Our first trip for YFT and we struck gold, bloody amazing. Will post some pics later today. Cheers
  16. Hey Guys and Gals, Anyone got any idea of where to get some replacement drag washers for a Daiwa Sealine 400 stardrag overhead reel.( i think its an early 80's model, wierd gold/bronze colour ) I've read in some of the others you can get Carbontex and file them down to suit? Any help is greatly appreciated. cheers
  17. If only we got Sambo's like WA.............!!!!!
  18. Hey Andrew, north or south of the colours? Cheers HM
  19. Glad you are on the mend! Stewy is the Man. Wishing you the speediest recovery! HM
  20. Hey mate, Try Julienne around at Little bay or South Maroubra. Plenty of fish there, Kings, Bonito, Mac Tuna etc. Spinning and softplastics. Yellowrock ( the furthest northern point of Malabar is good fishing too but very dangerous, not to mention the Great White that lurk off there too! As far as bottom bashing goes i'm not sure where is a good spot. On a sunny day at malabar when the water is clear you can see the sandy patches so thats a good place to cast into. Even grab a snorkel and have an even better look. Cheers and hope this helps. HM
  21. 5 inch Berkley Gulp saltwater jerkshads with a 3/0 nitro jighead 1/2 ounce, pink and white was very effective.
  22. Hey mate, same old story! There are so many clowns with a boat these days. Try going out the FAD, was there last week and people just drive straight in front of you over the school and scare them all off! I don't know what their thinking is. I take it you were fishing the colours? Was gonna fish there too yesterday arvo but it was way too sloppy to come that far from Botany. Cheers mate, tight lines! HM
  23. Hey Raiders, went for an afternoon fish just south of coogee. We couldn't find any yakka's so had to be content to throwing a few plastics around. Got to the spot we wanted and set up for our first drift.... Bang straight on with a few bonnies. Few casts later hook onto a nice fish and the reel starts screaming, tightened up the drag and got the fish closer. Was a kingie about 60 cm but very fat. Hooked up on a 2 other decent fish but dropped them. One of the other guys on board hooked a good fish but lost it, had 20mtrs line out in 10mtrs water! Was a fun afternoon, must have caught 20+ fish in under 2 hrs between us, the sea was a sloppy as hell for the drive back. If you can get some decent sized yakkas there a bigger kings under the rats. Sorry no pics as no fish worth it! HM
  24. What a shame getting sharked on a nice fish! You know the exact words to use for that imbecile......... Begins with F..... Dont let morons ruin your day thats my motto. Tight lines
