  1. Great little session mate I was working down at brighton on weds morning and i could see the birds working off towra. I was thinking Tailor but that is great news if there are schools of sambo's in the bay. Let the fun begin!!!!! Mick
  2. This one will always stick in my head. "JESUS LOVES YOU BUT NO BODY ELSE DOES" No more than 10 seconds after reading it the car which had it reversed into me at a petrol station puting his tow bar straight through my radiator.
  3. Fantastic report mate, sounds like a great Trip!!!!! Congrats for nailing a few trout on your first ever fly fishing trip. Love the last pic Priceless!!!!! Mick
  4. BEAST!!!!! One sexy looking rig mate
  5. Blackfish, Flathead,Estuary Perch, Monster whiting, Jewfish. Plenty of fish to keep you busy over the next 4-5 months, I find deeper water, live bait and lures the trick to fishing the cooler months. Give the Georges River a try this winter. Mick
  6. Ha Ha cheers fellas, that thing whould have been a mini FAD while it was short circuiting. Vibrating and flashing I sent it a text this morning to see if it was alright. Mick
  7. Hey peoples, took off to an area that i hav'nt spent alot of time fishing but im eagar to try to work the place out. The area being Captain Cook Bridge I spend a little time fishing there in the warmer months and have sussed out a few areas around the bridge that fish quite well but now i wont to find out what works in the cooler months. Got down to the water around 2.30pm and the water looked great, sun was out and a slight NW wind was blowing. Only a quick paddle across from where i launched the yak i started to work an eddy behind a pylon. The action was great to start with, managing 3 good size Trevs in around 10 casts . Trying to pull Trevs away from bridge pylons in the yak was great fun!!! Lost a few fish due tiny hooks on the vibes just pulling through there soft mouths but had to go a little hard on a few of them so i could get my vibe back to swim another day. Fishing went quite on that particular pylon so i moved to next and found more trevs holding up in the eddy and managed another 3, while fishing the bridge i was joined by Musty who had been fishing the bay. Told him there were trevs holding up in the eddy and within a few casts we were both into them.(Good to be finally having a flick with you again mate!) The light was getting low and having no lights on the Yak yet decided to call it quits. Could'nt help my self and tried another pylon on the way back with a smaller blade and had instant success, this thing was pulling hard and fighting dirty with a couple close calls i called it for a small jew but end up being a nice fat bream of 35cm. Now this is where my afternoon turned to S@#T in an instant, i had got my phone out to take a few pics of the bream but found all three hooks of the treble enbeded in the hard part of the Breams mouth, i placed the phone on the bottom of the yak and stared to remove the hook with some pliers, after getting hook out i left the bream on the bottom of the yak and turned around to put the pliers away forgeting the bream was in the well that my moblie was in Lets just put it this way BLACKBERRYS DONT FLOAT!!!!!!!!!!!! Lucky for me contract runs out at end of the month so not that peeeeved... Even though i lost the phone at the end of the session it was still a great afternoon and cant wait to get out there again for the next adventure!!!!! Cheers, Mick.
  8. I highly doubt it if the alvey is causing the line twist Robo, been using Alvey reels for rock, beach and Blackie fishing since i started fishing as a kid. Never had any issues with line twist. I have had the occasional line twist when surf fishing but this has nothing to do with swivel choice or your reel, More to do with shape and size of your bait, what sort of rig you use and how much current there is in the water. The Alvey is one of the most basic and most practical reels you can ever use when rock and beach fishing and will out last any egg beater reel on the market. Sand and saltwater will destroy egg beater style reels in no time, a $100-$150 alvey will last you a life time. Try expermenting with different rigs and more streamline baits, and even more simply try a different type of line. It will be interesting what other people have to say about the alvey reel but i give them a big thumps up in the rock and beach style of fishing. Oh yeh and to your question you can put a egg beater on your 12 foot rod, look at somthing like a 5000 to 7000 series size reel, just depends on what your your fishing for. Mick.
  9. Sounds great mate I will be there from 2.30pm and have a grey Viking Nemo Yak. You can safely launch your Yak from either end of the bridge, the northern end is a easy beach launch or the southern end is an old Cable Ferry Ramp. Im launching from the southern end of the bridge, only because you can park your car right at the waters edge which will be perfect. Just check out street Directory If you have a light spinning outfit that will be tops, something around 2-5kg. I will send you my number if you need to buzz me at any stage tomorrow. Cheers, Mick.
  10. Hey Guys im heading out for a flick in the Yak tomorrow afternoon, Should be there from 2.30 till dark. Chasing Jews and Flathead on plastics and vibes.... Drop us a message if you wont to catch up for a flick. Looks like a bit of a break in weather and wind, also nice high tide just on dusk for a shot at a Jew!!!! Cheers, Mick
  11. I know the hole your talking about but did'nt manage to pull anything out of it yesterday. On the shore there is a large storm water outlet right in front of the hole and with all this rain that area was a mess. All that shore line is pretty productive, but i find the fishing there extremely influenced by the tides. You only have a small window time when they show up What sort of lure you using when you fished there? I like the small vibes in that area, strike pro 3.5g and Little Max seem to be my go too lures for Ep's in that area. Cheers, Mick.
  12. Hey mate Yeh the blackie was a bit of a freaky catch, i guess he needed his protein fix All the fish caught were extremely aggressive when hiting the lure, the blackie took the lure of the surface before i even started to retrieve. Cant wait to get stuck into the jews mate, Going to give em a good nudge this year!!!!!. Would'nt mind trying out some sinking hard body lures for them this year, see if they fish any better then the plastics do for them Cheers, Mick
  13. After waking early yesterday and finding out it was pouring rain i was'nt looking good to go for my first session in the new Yak,had a quick look on a few weather site and decided to hold of till mid morning for a break in the weather. Ended up on the river at around 8ish and fished till around 11. It was dead low tide and water looked like a choc milkshake so i did'nt have much faith in nailing a few. First spot i tried i nailed a few small bream and a few small ep's on the slack of the tide around the Easthils Train Bridge, all caught on Strike pro vibes. The wind started to pick up and restricted me to only a few areas of the river still managed to nail a few more small bream and also a blackfish on a SX40. The clouds on the coast were looking very nasty so i called it a day. Very impressed with the Yak, Shaping up to be a cracker winter in the Georges me thinks.... Cheers, Mick.
  14. The ramp is always opened, the owners of the boat shed are there all day from around 8ish in the morning. If i miss them in the morning i just pop into the boat shed when i return and fix them up for the ramp fee, they are pretty easy going. There is only room for around 5 car/trailers to park there, so id try get there nice and early. No good to hear there are some thieves in the area!!!!
  15. Thats the one id be using to mate, ramp fee is $5. It is we'll lit up of a night, ive parked my car there for all nighters before with no trouble plus its around a 2 minute run to where the social is being held at. It also has a small jetty beside the ramp so you can keep your feet dry and warm on these chilly mornings. Carinya Rd runs of Henry Lawson Drive, If your trying to find it
  16. Hey peoples, anyone been using the new Ti-Sing Blades yet, only noticed them for the first time on the weekend at my local tackle store. The look pretty good and are very well priced at only $10 a lure. Tested one last night in the pool and they put out alot of vibration for such a small blade. Giving them a test tomorrow afternoon so i will keep you posted.
  17. Have a look at the bottom of the fishing chat page mate there is some info there for you. Its in the Weed(Lack of)section.
  18. Far out just read stewys post and thought that was a great fish..... That thing is a God Dam MONSTER!!!! WAY to go JOCO!!!1 Mick.
  19. Not wrong mate that bar is a nasty one, but im thinking of lanuching straight off Valla beach when its calm, I always see the pro boat working just off the point. Good area for reddies and always tuna schools busting up there during the warmer months..... Cant wait!!!! Mick.
  20. Finally found a yak thats perfect for what need and the boys down at a shop Outdoors looked after us in a major way!!!! Its 3.2m and weighs 20kg So its brezze to handle on and off the car and and can carry it easily to the water edge to launch. Ive still got a couple of things i would like on it, like a foot control leccy and sounder for offshore fishing up Nambucca but for now she will do just fine. Going to take her for a run in the Georges on Thursday, should be fun!!!! Look out Fish!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Hey mate my old man Lives at Nambucca which is only 30mins south of Coffs. I know Nambucca is fishing quite well at the moment, Bream and whiting still off the beaches on live beach worms and the blackfish have also just started to fire up in the river. If your planning on doing a little blackie fishing i would be taking up a good supply of weed mate, the stuff is so hard to find up there. Are you taking a boat up or will you be land based, i can send you a couple areas to try if you like.
  22. Was referring to the Parra river area mainly and the nuisance of having to travel compared with 3-4 yrs ago. Yeh I know where your coming from, Councils have screwed it up mate, they spray all my local creeks now. Takes me nearly 2hours return trip for a good weed source for me. Sometimes i dont mind the travel and a litle bit of exploring, found plenty of good areas for a fish that way too... Sorry was'nt having a crack at you with the(certainly not a lack of it), but was just giving you a couple areas where i know it is abundance
  23. Welome to fishing with braid mate... I also find i get far less tangles as the braid gets older, once they loose there waxy feeling they come good. Suffix is good stuff mate, i would'nt go changing it. I know it hard but try running the line over your fingers before it gets on the spool for the first couple of casts when you start flickin, seems to work with me when i use new stuff.
  24. Long bay has it on both sides of the bay, the rocks at kurnell are covered in the stuff, The rocks around Cronulla, shark island to shelly beach are also covered in it. The further your prepared to walk the more there is.... Any fresh water drain meeting salt water is also worth a look, even found great weed in open storm water drains.... Certainly not a lack of it?
  25. I will be in Weipa Roberta, So gona have to miss out this time... But i promise i will be thinking of you guys when im up there!!!!! Wonder if they have any Bream, Flathead or blackfish up there this time of year......
