  1. Its a great system for squid mate, like mentioned above just look out weed patchs close to the shore line. Also worth a try in some of the deeper areas of the system, sometimes they school up in holes just as well they hold up over weed. On a clam day(no swell)try between Cronulla point and Shark Island, great kelp beds there!
  2. Thats shocking news guys!!! Only chatting to him a few weeks back and he said he was hips were giving him grief, no good to here its put him hospital. Hes one tough cookie, he'll bounce back in no time All the best mate and best wishes for a speedy recovery Mick
  3. Its amazing to see the River completly change form last year Dang. I fished the river pretty hard last winter with lures and i would rarely come back to the ramp without having a good session on something. The coldest temp i can remember when fishing last year was around 14deg and i was thinking shit thats cold, no wonder with temps in the 12's the system has shut down. We have had loads of rain this winter mate so salinity levels would also be a major factor up that end of the river, its gotta be screwing up winter spawning fish like Ep's and Jews its either been brown, browner or filthy. I hav'nt been for a flick since the start of july and prob wont start hitting the system again till the end of the month. Nothing wrong with fishing for blackfish, ive turned to blackies and been having a ball with them recently but carefull i reckon its just about as addictive as lure fishing. Mick
  4. Way to go guys!!!! Im itching to get out there, its been weeks since ive had a flick.. Mick
  5. ????? Im with you Roberta, absolutely no idea? It looks like quite an old fish going by the damage to its mouth area, and those eyes look like you have pulled something up from the deep! Ps, where do you get your blackie floats from
  6. Hey cam recently just did a Trip to Weipa-Cape York Peninsula, the time your intersested in are great times for fishing up north. November is great and is before the monsoonal activity, feb is smack bang in the middle of the wet season. Ive been told the fishing up there during the wet season-run off is completly off the hook. We did our trip with weipa houseboats, check them out on the net or give them a buzz.(Speak to steve) Our trip was 10 days, 4 days poking around town and talking to locals then 6 days on the house boat. All up for 9 of us the trip came in at $2800 each. That is return airfares from sydney to weipa, accomadation at weipa caravan park(4 DAYS),food, ridiculous amount of beer(30 cases),houseboat cost,fuel(700LITRES). You could do it alot cheaper that we did it, we went a little crazy. The only problem you might have with the time you wont is vacancies, but have a chat to steve and see what is on offer. I put a post up of our trip in the lure fishing reports called Windy Weipa, check out some of the action we got into and that suppose to be the quite part of the year up there. Goodluck anyhow's in where ever you choose. Mick
  7. +1000000 for the Cultiva Dancer!!!!!! Having a Barra suck your lure of the surface has got to be one fishings greatest moments
  8. I use a slightly shorter rod for fishing blades/vibes 6'10 and for plastics and small hard bodys i use a 7'2 Both are 2-4kg sticks and are berkley dropshots IM6. Value for money and build quality cant really go past them, prices start at around $100 then go right through to $230-$280 for top of the range. It might be just me but i cant justify spending $450 on a rod, i spend my $$$$ on the reel and braid. Just remember to take your reel and line with you and load the rods up you wont to look at, this way you can get a feel for the power in the butt section of various rods. Good luck anyhow's, like you said evryone going to have there own opinions Mick
  9. Good on you mate for getting out and experiencing a part of our beautiful country then sharing your adventures with us all. As always your reports are a joy to read and your photo's are fantastic. Love the big rainbow!!!!! Shes a cracker fish mate and you deserved it Sad to here your leaving, your reports will be missed Regards, Mick
  10. Great stuff guys!!!! Going to have to get me some of those pencil poppers, been eyeing a few of them off at the local store but never knew which ones to go for. I definately get much better results with natural looking lures in the shallows. Mick
  11. Shallow water fishing would have to be one of my favourite forms of fishing during the warmer months. I really enjoyed fishing the flats last summer and cant wait to do it again!!! Heres a few that were productive for me last summer. Halco lazer pros, rebels and berkley frenzy were my pick for shallow diving lures for Flathead Top water were, ecogear "Shrimp", Mebapen clear sub-surface and river to sea "Rover" 50mm Lures which never failed were sx40 and strike pro shrimp(suspending type) Whats some of your favourite shallow water estuary lures?
  12. Someones keen!!!! Do your self a little favour mate and go up to the top of this forum and you will find a heading ''Jewfish Tactics Lets Share'' Grab a coldie or 6 out of the fridge and have a good read.... There is some fantastic information provided for all to see, drop a message to people that fish that area and im sure they will guide you in the right direction, or maybe tee up a fish with one of them and learn the ropes. Mick
  13. Hey mate, had a great session on them 2 weeks ago at alfords point. We fished out of a boat but You dont need a boat to get there you can park at the end of the bridge (SHIRE SIDE-SOUTH BOUND) and walk down to the water. When down at the water turn right and walk up a little track to you come to large boulders on the shore not far from a red marker pole. Fish of the large boulders and cast about 5m from the shore it is around 2-3 deep. I fished it on a run out tide and we had a absolute ball, dont burly or you will get swamped by undersize fish. It a pretty reefy area so up the leader to at least 8-10lb i just dusted a couple time on 6-lb by good fish. Was up that area this afternoon in the Yak and the water has cleaned up great over the last 2 weeks. You should find them there for sure, Good luck Anyhows!!!!
  14. Good topic Sefan, i would love to learn more about these elusive little buggers to. 20+ years of fishing and never seen or caught one?
  15. Really only ever see the pro boat working that area off valla but i must admit i do see alot more activity down south. My old man just fishes Valla beach these days, its his one stop shop. Whiting, tailor, bream and belive it or not the occasional reddie after heavy seas. Looking foward to the catch up and if the weather is crap theres always Mick
  16. Putting some great little sessions together guys!!!! That whole corner is one big eddy, ive done alright on the flatties there too and i can remember a few posts from stewy this time last year he also was getting stuck into a few in the same area. Those Ep's arn't safe when bassboy888 is on the water, your on fire champion!!!!! Congrats on the catch and a very informative post Mick
  17. Stop teasing!!!! These next couple of weeks are going to go so slow... My old man lives at Valla Beach, him and his mates always keep me well informed when the fish are on.... Cheeky Buggers!!!!
  18. Would love to catch up Rick, yeh i dos'nt take me long to get my bum up there when reports are coming thick and fast. Those wicked westerlys are always a pain in the arse, but not to bad for beach fishing. How's the entrance looking up there at the moment? Hav'nt had a chance to get up there since december
  19. Hey Guys and Girls, will be heading up to Nambucca for 4 days for some serious river and beach fishing. Good reports at the moment of monster Tailor and Bream off the beaches and the flicking for flathead is always an option in the rivers at anytime of the year. I will be heading up at night on weds 4th aug so can get a full days fishing on thursday. Trip from sydney takes around 5-6 hours depending on how many stops you do. Let us know if your keen to come up or if you already live up that way drop us a message and we'll catch up for a fish. You will need a boat or yak to fish rivers and also need the boat or yak to get you accross to fish south beach. Tides will be perfect for fishing the river during the mornings and rising tides for fishing the beaches in the afternoons/dusk. Mick
  20. Way to go Hodgey, that is a cracker of a winter flattie session!!!! Never fished down that way before, but after seeing this i think its going on my to-do list Mick
  21. Awesome stuff guys!!!!! Great post and some top photos, is there any fish that swims that wont eat blade!!!! They would have to be favorite lure at the moment. Mick

    Inox

They are are basically anti-corrosive sparys. They can be used on just about any surface to prevent corrosion occurring, all the above mentioned are non-conductive so there excellent to use on electic connections in your boat or 4WD to. Different sparys have different purposes, Inox is a great product and also can be used as light lubrication. Lanotec is more of an Industrial Strength Spray Grease and being a spray it penetrates into hard to reach places, can be used on chains, bearings, bolts and leaf springs on your tailer. When you coat something with lanotec it will actually set like grease in few minutes, providing an excellent barrier from saltwater and oxygen. I used to spray down my trailer with the stuff at the start of each season and in 10 years never replaced one corroded part on my tralier, The leaf springs were starting to show a little surface rust but when i sold it recently they still had years of life left in them. Plenty of info available on the internet on all 3 products mentioned Twin 1. Mick
  23. Well done boys, sounds like a great day!!! Johnno your certainly loving these weekdays off are'nt ya
  24. Maybe we need to start fishing for them Mick and let the media aware of our catches, It could be the answer to getting rid of these fully sick jet skiers from the rivers during the warmer months. Fishing the goerges all year round, now that would be nice Mick
