  7. cuttles will out fish squid in my opinion, kings will smash em... i hate the buggers thou, the worse part of it is pinning them with the sliding rig there bloody UGLY as anything and just WEIRD... but AWESOME kingy candys... CAREFULL THEY INK ALOT HEHEHE... aww and they stay alive for ever haha very tough critters!! cheers steve

  10. when i fished botany boy a couple of years ago the cakes did produce a lot of early season rats that school up, they can be caught in big numbers but are generally down on size but on light gear as ross mentioned GREAT fun... generally once one is hooked 10 or so of his mates will follow him to the boat, then the action starts just keep your eyes on the move .... great fun when there hanging around your baot,..... steve
  11. unfortunaltely not yet mate, have come close on a few occasions only 2cms to go now .. i was only introduced to kings last summer by netic and crew and was VERY basic not knowing a thing about , kings , squid, downrigging or never even fished the harbour before, so im very thankfull to all that oz and sal have passed on to me... id like to think in this short time ive come along way.... but everytrip we all learn something i think in the beginning its just important to be dedicated and get the basics right then the rest flows... cheers steve
  12. i caught a calamari squid the other weekend on a pheromone 4.0 not a HUGE squid just nice bait sized this was one of my land based spots down south, it was fairly shallow i think the trick is just to work the jig abit quicker , seems to turn the squid ON anyway... only caught the 1 then dropped another biggun... thats all so far on the pheromones and havnt tried them since.. so many different types of jigs on the market saying that they all work! alot of it depends on the actual person holding the rod, action and technique is VITAL... 1 jig might work for one person yet for another guy it wont catch him a snag.... i think all the modern expensive jigs are good just gotta find what works for u and stick to it.. i have that many jigs its NOT funny any more and 20 odd bucks a pop is the norm, haha but when ever i see a new jig hit my tackle stores im always grabbing them and "trying them" i find it VERY hard to control my self when it comes to fishing tackle...
  13. very nice king mate well done !! cheers steve
  14. mate, we very rarely keep big kings for the table, fish in the 65 - 70 cm range are our BBQ fish we take home!! if we dont have BBQs or family gatherings ect they almost always go back tagged after a quick photo on the brag mat... theres nothing more satisfying then catching BIG fish then setting them free unharmed watching them power back to the depths.... i havnt tried the kingy yet as hes on the menu for tonights dinner but its all filleted and ready to go!! cheers steve
