  1. Doesn't have the same impact as this: Channel 9 will be disappointed.
  2. Wobbygong explains why it didn't let go and he felt like it was dragging him back in. He is lucky id didn't shake it's head or twist it's body. I've met a couple of people that have been bitten by a wobby - it's no fun.
  3. I use an near identical system - another necessity when you cannot get to the bow. This set up also allows me to tie off side-on to a current if required and/or suitable. Biggest problem is loops in my anchor line that I'll 'get to later' - that reminds me!
  4. I hadn't thought of a side mount. I am in much the same situation as you are baz, with an almost identical setup. Stern is the same, big difference at the front is that I have no opening in my windscreen - so no easy access to the bow at all. I will be interested to see what options you come up with. Cheers
  5. It's a chilling story Surfer bitten in Sydney shark attack GEORGINA ROBINSON February 11, 2010 - 9:07AM A man is in hospital after being attacked by a shark on Sydney's Northern Beaches this morning. Police said the man was in the water at Basin Bay, just north of Mona Vale Beach, when a shark bit him on his left leg about 8am. Do you know more? Message 0424 SMS SMH (+61 424 767 764) or email us or direct message us on Twitter @smh_news with information or images. The man made it out of the water and his wife drove him to Mona Vale Hospital, where he is in a stable condition, receiving treatment. The man was surfing with his 10-year-old son when the attack occurred, the Manly Daily reported. Police said the shark was 1.2 metres long, but the man told the paper it was a two-metre great white. "I was pushing my son on to waves and it just belted [me]," he said. "I grabbed on to the pinnacle of a rock and held on as it tried to drag me out.... and I won." Bystanders said the man grabbed on to the rocks to pull himself to shore and the shark tried to drag him back into the water. The man managed to break free and get to shore. http://www.smh.com.au/national/surfer-bitt...00211-nszo.html
  6. Would anyone consider eating a Tiger Shark - say up to 3ft? How about a Bull Shark? I've caught small hammerheads and they are terrific to eat.
  7. ..parking for about 40 cars...fills fast What's it like this time of year at 5am on weekends? Weekdays?
  8. No yelling, swearing.......maybe they were just in shock
  9. I've dived under boats with lines out - mono is basically invisible. One of the exercises you do when training to dive is to take a colour chart down with you. The colours don't go invisible, you just can tell colours apart. Braid is so thin that I doubt you'd see it either. Even when water looks crystal clear, it isn't. So picking up something that thin would be near impossible unless you were on top of it. What do fish eyes see? How much of their feeding is visual?
  10. Buy a handful of Shimano Siennas and throw one over the side each time one lets you down. Cheap option, and you'll be left with quite a few unused reels.
  11. Don't worry Roberta, any parts left over after a rebuild were probably unnecessary anyway. I always have bits left over......or have to drill extra holes.....or buy extra bits
  12. Sunday arvo Brooklyn for the ebb tide & run-out. Water was all over the place & running very hard. No real ebb at all & so thick with large jellyfish that continually fouled the lines. Heaps of crabs for that small window when the water slowed. Got a nice bream & 37cm and some small school jews. plenty of pickers, but nothing of note took the nice fresh baits. The water was surprisingly nice - not muddy at all and it was warm - 26. The driving rain sent us home just after dark. If the fish were on, we would have handled it easy. Cheers
  13. Tough afternoon in the wind & eventually the rain. Decent bream & blue swimmers. No jews though - one was released to come back another day.
  14. As the rain continues relentlessly and water comes in through new spots in my roof, as well as the old ones, I am still optimistic of getting out tomorrow. Pittwater & lower Hawkesbury is the plan.
  15. That is a tip worth remembering. You've also enlightened me to the fact that I am qualified to attach handles to reels - something to fall back on
  16. Why are spinning reels set up in shops with the handle on the left? Checking photos online - handles on the left.
  17. Unless it's open waters or deemed open waters - then you don't need type 1's. For kids I like type 2's. Mainly because they wear them all the time and the neck flotation makes Type 1's uncomfortable to wear for hours at a time. Also, the kids are in constant supervision and the main concern is that they may fall out of the boat. The situation where they may spend an extended time in the water is not the prime concern - but it is when you venture offshore. Check your maps for "limited open waters" Limited open waters are classed as open waters when waves exceed 0.5m from trough to crest in any part of that area. That is a grey regulation if ever there was one.
  18. Cheers Greg. Thanks for the info & look out for the crabs.
  19. Any point trying for squid in Pittwater or Cowan in the middle of the day or is it a waste of time at that time of day? Much the same question regarding crab pots. I've had success at night, but none in the middle of the day. Am I wasting my time trying?

    Newest Project

There is a class of racing boat that fits your description. They use Yamato motors. The driver has to kneel in the fast boats, rather than sit. http://www.yamatoracing.net/ - does it look anything like this?
  21. Mentions a replacement part, so this would indicate that a potential issue has been resolved.
  22. There was a recall in the states. The dealer may be exaggerating this a whole lot. http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/recalls...aspx?id=090021T

    Phasing Out Fuel

I've seen the notices at a few servos. I wont use E10 for anything. That stuff will wreck your lawnmower. Would it make more sense to run 2 stroke motors on methanol? From 2 stroke karting days it was suggested that methanol will burn cleaner, more complete and offer more power will less pollution than petrol. Modifications would be required for carbies and lubrication. Would this work for boat motors?
  24. Great information here. Thanks for the insight. A few options to try - better double uni's / modified double uni's as suggested . The revised Albright will also get a go - this is an easy knot to tie. The slim beauty knots are obviously worth a go and the J Knot that jewgaffer linked to is one I will have a go at right away. I hadn't considered ideas like cutting the mono line at an angle to reduce foul ups. Another great tip that I'll be using.
  25. I use an electric mincer I purchased online. Cost around $100.00 It does a good job mincing leftover bait, prawn heads, pilchards etc. Decent sized fish heads and frames will block it up though. Just have to chop these bits down a bit before putting them through. Just because something fits in the hole at the top of the machine doesn't mean it will be minced. A bit of time preparing saves time & mess later. I use left over frying oil and bread mixed in as well. I've tried dried catfood mixed through the burley - but this just seems to blow up and go rubbery as the burley block thaws and I have to remove the bloated cat food by hand after the rest has dissipated. For something that will take everything you throw at it do an online search for "will it blend" . Hours of entertainment there. Better still - search for this on youtube Will it blend? That is the question.
