  1. i heard lots of stories of seajigger rods in all ratings snapping near the tip from deadlifting
  2. The reason for colours disappearing underwater is because water absorbs the colour spectrum as you go deeper. This is dependent on the wavelength/frequency of each colour. Water absorbs the "weakest" colours first, namely the ones with the largest wavelength (and lowest frequency). So the colour spectrum from weakest to strongest is: red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, violet. I'm not sure about pink, but that could be more like violet than red. Anyway you can see from this link http://www.deep-six.com/page77.htm that a red cloth is colourless underwater (rather than invisible). Anyway in conclusion I don't know if it makes a difference what colour your braid is =P p.s. You can apply the same ideas to explain why dusk and dawn have a reddish sky. These are the times when the atmosphere is thinnest. Normally the thicker atmosphere of the day doesn't allow red to penetrate so we see the sky as blue =D
  3. I had this problem before. I wasn't using power pro, but it definitely happened when tying a bimini (braid would always snap right above the bimini). Recall there's a part of the knot where you pull it tight and all the twists rub against the braid. This is probably where your braid gets frayed. Sadly I never did learn to tie the bimini without this happening. Instead I learned the FG knot which is thinner and stronger but not tying it properly results in the knot slipping off or unravelling. Good luck!
  4. I think get a nice Japanese rod and lures. They'll be cheaper for sure. I don't remember reels being cheaper.
  5. sounds a bit like japanese iso fishing. maybe you could check out that kinda tackle. i think it's super expensive though

  7. I use singles on all my metals too, been working a treat! I rig it without the second split ring, with a bait hook (black magic KS), so the hook does naturally sit to one direction. This said if I didn't have a box of 50 of these black magic KS hooks lying around I would probably buy decoy JS or gamakatsu single 55barbless
  8. sweet! that sardine that got skewered, ouch!
  9. bhahahaa crazy people know better! love it great report and nice fish!
  10. Awesome! Thanks Gary! Yeah I do the morning session 6-9am at whale beach and have seen the garfish on gang hooks pulling up kings and salmon before. I'm thinking they should take garfish size lures too then right? I've got myself some 18cm pencils to chuck for this season. For some reason whenever I bring bait, it turns into a super quiet day where no one will catch anything! So I only trust lures =] Ya also like when the wind is helping me cast!
  11. Just wondering if anyone has preferences for the wind, swell and the moon cycle for fishing off the rocks? I've noticed that it'll rarely be a quiet one if swells are around 2m, not sure what to think about the other factors
  12. Hey Steze, I have 8000SW HG, I use it mainly for spinning off the rocks. Had it for about 6months. I like to think I don't baby my fishing things that much (but that could be up to you), just a splash of water after a day out, never oiled or greased it before, never taken it apart before. Still feels smooth and issue free. When I bought it I was also debating getting Saltiga but both have their fans so it just came down to price in the end.
  13. nice one! i got a huge one off the rocks at whale last summer but it got off whilst trying to lift it up the cliff haha
  14. woo! i'm a fan! carbon fibre blinging!

  16. haha tuff crowd... i loled =]
  17. hmm they didn't charge for the casing, but the daiwa 80tn comes with a hard case (more like extravagant packaging than a travel case) i think it still helped though. they didn't charge for the cardboard or newspaper either. i think i saw the same super expensive travel cases as you. they're just too much if you don't fly with your rods all the time. maybe if you find a friendlier chap you can ask about packaging your rod for plane travel. i pretty much went in with no plan and they sorted it all for me. best of luck little hooker!
  18. i brought home a daiwa saltiga dorado 80tn from japan. bought from sansui in shibuya (they pack it really nicely!). it had the soft case, then newspaper around the butt and tip ends -> then inside the hard case -> then inside the cardboard tube with more newspaper all around i was afraid it might not survive that well as it travelled with me from tokyo -> vancouver -> whitehorse -> vancouver -> sydney. people in vancouver thought i was skiing in the olympics hahaha it survived =D (and that is a butt joint rod that is 6foot disjointed). hopefully you can be a bit more confident!
  19. milton bradley the game maker! very nice surprise! =D
