  1. i use pe4 when going for kings off the rocks, pe2 for bonito/salmon probably more about leader strength/size though, not sure the strength/size of the braid makes much difference when it's rubbing on oysters i go, 3m of 60-100lb mono leader for my heavy kit and 3m of 14-40lb leader for my light kit
  2. i got a victorinox for filleting. it's pretty sharp and reasonably priced ($30 i think). works really nice through any size fish. not sharp enough to make nice cuts of sashimi though, i use my yanigiba for that
  3. AWESOME! i'm inspired! =] how was the eatin? did it become sashimi?
  4. jelly(yum) like(hmm) ooze(eeww) so i suppose fish wouldn't really be living in this deep jelly hole?
  5. i've fished this wharf before, maybe 4-5 times. My view so far is that it's not where you wanna go to find a feed or to see your drag go off, but a pretty nice spot to chill. Caught and seen caught there: bream, whiting, mullet, yakka, trevs, leather jacket, snapper, tailor, eel-tail catfish, garfish, butterbream and a bunch of other little fish (i don't really know what they are) Most of the these fish are the baby size, except the mullet are the big type that are hard to get biting
  6. awesome! no retying hooks, no changing leader, no wind knots, no touching smelly bait =D
  7. bad luck with the fishing still sounds like fun though! and all the way to the spool uni knot! very nice =]
  8. @monch: i tried to match the tailors mouth to the bite, it's mouth was a fair bit narrower. guess it could be though, with the jaws extending on the strike @hottyscotty: serious? this happens lots with trebles? i'll look at gettin some singles to try i suppose @GregL: never thought of the treble swing, sounds plausible
  9. so i'm fishing whale beach on tuesday throwing some lures from the stones at sunrise for about 2hrs not much about, only got one 50cm tailor on the third cast and that was it some dudes had live yakkas and didn't even get a hit when i go to pack up i noticed my lure has been ruffed up a bit upon closer inspection it looks like a bite mark! but i never felt a thing!? and i'm fishing braid with about 1.5m leader right above the hook too, makes so little sense! i caught the tailor on the back treble.. i was thinking maybe kingy? or salmon? any ideas? it's a zipbaits zbl system minnow 15cm if you were curious c[=
  10. dunno if anyone else here looks at the manly hydraulics site but it seems the water is warming up? is this right? does it mean pelagics will still be inshore?
  11. very nice! so compared to an 'equivalent' shimano or daiwa it's just as nice to use? any noticeable differences besides the weight? i was tossing up between the abu soron stx or a shimano or daiwa a while back, ended up gettin a nicely priced second hand luvias
  12. nice work! the big yakka are freaky eh! i got a 30cm model the other night, thought it was a small trev until it was landed
  13. ahh when i was in japan in feb i was actually looking for MC works rods sadly everywhere i went they were out of stock i ended up getting a saltiga dorado 80TN rod matched with stella sw 8000 for shore casting man if i had known it's that hard to get an MC works i'd have looked more! another brand that looks like it might have the minerals for this is "yamaga blanks" wow that's really awesome! outfishing live baiters! are you guys in sydney? (i am) i would love to see it live! @Rode Cary: the magazine is in japanese. I don't imagine you get snags much with jigs do you? did you end up getting your MC works in the end hottyscotty?
  14. For all this time I thought Shore Jigging was simply what the Japanese called land based game fishing with lures. Like spinning metal slugs and throwing poppers or big minnows from the rocks. After picking up a Jap fishing magazine "salt & stream", I realised they really do mean "shore" "jigging". Maybe this was obvious, but my eyes opened. Using the same knife jigs (maybe a bit lighter though, 60-180g) as from boats, rigged the same way with one or two assist hooks from the top. Rods are purpose built shore jigging rods (usually 9ft at least) Reels are whatever you would boat jig with Line and leader is same as boats The technique differs a little, cast out as far as you can let the jig sink jig the rod from about 10 to 12 o'clock while winding fast when your jig is near the surface, open the bail and let it sink again, repeat the jigging and you might get 2-3 sets before casting again Was wondering if anyone likes to fish this style? and if you do can I be your apprentice! =P Looks like fun! ohh forgot to say the target is mainly kings!
  15. any shiny/sparkly metals work for me just cast as far as you can (or where you see them schooling), wait a bit for it to sink, then rip it back as fast as you can.
  16. i have a 2-4kg 2 piece, gen 3 it's really nice to use i had a lox but got rid of it because it feels like you have to baby it for you not to break it the dropshot can take a little more punishment if you're a little careless like me =P
  17. wow very cool! what live bait do these guys like taking? (if you don't mind)
  18. that's awesome! a mate of mine fouled 2 the other night with soft plastics, lthey are just lazing on the surface and he aims then strikes
