  1. Went out looking for a marlin today, started trolling from the peak (10am) to 12 mile. Water temp was 23.9 at 12 mile, water looked good with small flying fish about. Trolled at 12 mile until 1.30pm for zip. Heard on the radio of two marlin caught at 30 fathoms of Long Reef early in the morning. A bit of chatter about small dollies at the fads being caught with some larger ones there but shy. Trolled towardes Sydney Harbour until 30 fathoms out then to Botany Bay for zip. Water in close was green and about 21.5. Good Luck.

  2. Lazy start today, still on holidays. Weather looked to good to pass up. 8am at Long Reef for kingy's - not much doing. Decided to try 12 mile again since landing a marlin there on Saturday. Arrived there about 11am and set the lures. About 30 minutes later, when very close to mark we got the fish on Saturday a Stripe marlin come up behind the short rigger (a Pakula Lumo Sprocket - largest lure we had out) and swiped it several times with its bill then went to long corner (Pakula mouse) and swiped it twice before disappearing. Worked the area for another two hours for zip. Asking the question, apart from accelerating to incite the fish are there any other tactics I could have used ?

    Thanks, The President.

  3. Reading all the recent marlin action, decided to fish the 12 mile around the tide change at 7.45am. Out of Botany Bay heads at 6am, when about 2 mile from the 12 mile started to set the lures. A mixture of 8,10 & 12 inch skirts. Whilst in the process of setting the second outrigger (long corner), we had only been trawling for about 15 miutes when the long rigger started making that sweet sound. A stripey starts dancing on top taking 37kg line, then goes down and before we know it is under the boat with the line around the propeller. Handline the fish, cut the line, tie a double uni knot, continue the fight and land the fish. Water temp was 22.2, lure was 8 inch lumo sprocket, 37kg stand up, boat Barcrusher 6.4HT, angler 'Butch' fish released, estimate 85kg stripe marlin.

Conditions were beautiful out there this morning, trolled till 12pm then fished the bottom at 12 mile for 6 leather jackets and one kingfish.

Listened to all the radio talk with the comp, only a few fish raised and landed.

  4. Friend of mine went out Thursday 15/9 fished the bottom at Browns for 5 hours for nothing. Current was not a problem, able to reach bottom. Fish must of been shut down of the gemmies have moved on. He said a commercial boat was also moving around looking for fish - nothing.

  5. Butch I think you are referring to a kingfish spot Al McGlashan speaks of in his opfkfpo Kingfish DVD. From memory he views this 'white rock'using his underwater camera. Unfortunately I don't knowwhere this location is, but it is somewhere in Long Reef or there abouts.

  6. Mate, u can do all that in one day. Were the planets, moon phase, water temp, barrometre, wind and tides all at their optimum or u just decided to go fishing for the outing ???????????

    Awsome day.

    The President.

  7. Hi Jim, Nice catch, great photo. I also caught one that same Sunday fishing at Browns. The depth was 440m, total suprise catch. Didn't think they would be that deep. Anyone else caught one in that sort of depth?

    The President.
